....and will it improve the Beyers performance.
Can this be done by the layman?
Was reading an article on Jon R Sank which stated
one can recieve the same perf and specs as the RCA by
replacing & installing a 77DX ribbon into other ribbon-type mics.

Is this true?

Thx track-ratta-tat-tat!
the reason I ask is a particular going-outta-biz studio in NJ gave my bro a few mics, 1 of which was an inoperable 77DX. I was wondering if there was any WAYYYY possible I can remove the ribbon, what tools what I need and replace the ribbon in a Beyer with the 77!

I seriously doubt that you could change out the ribbon yourself. It's so delicate, that even touching it the wrong way could destroy it.

If somebody gave you a RCA 77DX, you're damn lucky; they're worth anywhere from $1,200 up.

If it doesn't work, get it fixed - it's worth it!!!!

Send the inoperable 77dx to get fixed and have an operable 77 worth like $1500 - $2000 or more. Or you could just mess up both your mics and have to send them to get fixed anyway. :)

Let the pro do it.
