I am running a Digitech RP90 through a Tascam US144. When I connect to my Desk top computer all is fine. I recently moved my studio to another room and ran the same set up through my laptop. With the RP90 on and plugged into the Interface, through the earphones I could hear a background harmonic "wave" ascending and descending - very odd. I unplugged the RP90 and it stopped. Any thoughts?

I have had a similar situation, in which I hear that ascending and descending noise. This however, stopped when I unplugged my microphone. Though I don't have a better explanation, I hope you can get it all figured out! Good luck and welcome to homerec bbs. Eric

an educated guess is still a guess...

something in the new room is emiting a bit of RF interference... and the FX box setting has a LFO modulation in it's routing...

Another possibility is a dirty power supply on the laptop. Was it running off battery or AC adaptor?

It's running off an adaptor.

sorry lynn i should have given you more... alot of eletric stuff puts out noise in the Radio Frequency bands... one of the biggest offenders is flourescent lights... i'm suggesting that the pedal is picking up some of that kinda stuff... as to the LFO business... if you start to get into changeing the settings on that thing you'll find that adding some modulation to the effect can be cool... it's that sweeping kinda sound on some of them saying "phaser" or "doubler"... thats why the noise seems to go up and down... make sense??? have fun...

Demented Dude,

Thank you, I do understand. It seems odd it didn't occur in the other room. The RP90 and the Tascam are constants, the location and the computer changed - no flourescents (1931 house). I plugged it in again today and didn't hear it. What I do notice, playing tracks I've recorded before, is that playing them on the laptop, as opposed to the desk top I was using, I am getting what I think is "clipping" - bleeps and breaks in the playback???Thanks again. PS - How do I attach a file so someone can listen to it?
