Hey guys,

First off this bbs has improved my knowledge and technique greatly, so thanks to everybody for their generous sharing of knowledge....

Alright Harmonics, wtf?

In Effects>Filters theres a thing called a "Notch filter"

it has presets like "50hz plus harmonics" etc. I'm assuming that the "Notches" are the frequencies listed, which are altered at a very low, no... i mean high Q right?

I heard somewhere that frequencies up in the 13 khz range add the "sparkle" and clarity to the track. (vocals)

is this true?

When I experiment with this notch filter, I click on the "DTMF" frequencies as they are up in that higher range. The result is a kinda slight "tubey" reverb.

Could anyone explin some concepts about these upper range harmonics and how to best obtain them and make them shine?

I have been using the notch filter very sparingly on the lead vocals, and then I would boost up the 13khz range of the whole mix about 1db with a low Q w/ the parametric eq. In the end it sounds alright, but I'm sure it could be better. Any suggestions? Thanks....

That "50Hz plus harmonics" is a preset designed to rid your tracks of hum picked up from the AC mains (I think there's another for "60Hz + harmonics"). These filter out the fundamental frequency of the hum and all its harmonics, meaning everywhere artifacts of the hum will appear, like at 100Hz, 200Hz and so, many of them obviously being in the sensitive midrange region. I don't think AC hum is a viable way of enhancing the sparkle of your mixes, but someone here may contradict me.
