Hardware E-mu Modules Vs. The Proteus X

I am asking people who have worked with both.What are the pros and cons.I've heard people say that most of the software that emulates hardware sounds flat and thin.Is this true about the Proteus X?

and is it possible to put the pci breakout box in a firewire thing/converter like u can do with hard drives?
