Im having trouble playing the file... does anyone have any idea why soundcloud wont play on my computer? I even signed up to see if that would fix it and it doesn't. This isnt the first time Ive tried to play a file on soundcloud....

Don't bother with any ridiculous "Stereo Widening" crap. Use your pan knob.

I have the lead guitars all panned, I suppose if I had double tracked the main rhythm guitar, that would have solved the guitar width, but the drums... I have kick/snare centered, and hats slightly panned then the toms are all moderately panned (3 toms only), and I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure the overheads are hard panned, as well as the rooms. What else can be done for width, if I am doing it all with pan knobs? I feel like I may be missing a fundamental element or something.

Rokket, I found a direction mixer that has a "mid-side" function, was this what you were referring to?

BTW, I hugely appreciate all your help!

You're doing the right thing. Make sure your overheads ar epanned hard and maybe try muting your room mics. Not to dwell on the phase issue, but if your room mics are out of phse with your overheads, that could narrow your sound. Personally, unless you have a room you absolutely love sound-wise, I wouldn't use room mics. With the combination of overhead, room, and spot mics, there might be phase issues all over the place that might be affecting the wideness of the sound.

Having said all that, your drums and mix sound really good to me.

Gotcha... well I'll keep on doing what I'm doing then. I do kinda see where people are getting the narrow image, but maybe I'll play with it some more....the mix that is.

I'm only getting a narrow image from the guitars. The drums seemed fine to me. Drums have a natural stereo image, but they're not that wide.

Well then I'm gonna go ahead and call it a success. I'll definitely remember to go wide with guitars on the full production with the band, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna disappoint them with a less-than-ideal product. I realize that the vocals will be challenging, I'm sure, but I'm glad I got the music tracks down somewhat decently. Any advice for mixing vocals for this type of music?

My game plan was going to be heavy compression and EQ, and do my best to stay away from reverb, as I can't imagine it'll sound right. Most likely, I'll double, if not triple the lead vocals, and make sure they are lined up nice and toight. Toight like a Toiger...Maybe a little delay if it calls for it.
