It may have been covered before but can some give some info on ?

1) NTFS or FAT32

2)I have six hard drives on my pc and one is really fast the others are ok but one shines above the others. Is it best to install XP on this drive with cubase and use one of the others for storing the audio, or use the fastest to store the audio on and a moderate one to install XP

3) Are there any other things I can tweak in XP to give better performance on my HD & Cubase

4) All this PC will be used for is Recording and no other purpose, Is there a link/site that can tell me what I need to be running in background and what I don't in XP ... when I initiate task manger there is shit loads running in background.

Many thanks for reading ..Smeghead

1) NTFS
2) what are the specs on your drives? firewire, IDE?
3) & 4) http://www.musicxp.net (and i'd recommend getting rid of anything running in the background except maybe quicktime or anything you know Cubase needs)

Many Thanks for Reply much appreciated, will have a look there now.

Hard Drives are IDE
1 on primary master
2 on secondry
2 on SATA
1 on ATA Controller card

i'd use one of the sata drives for audio...and then either the ata or the sata drive for XP. they both will work fine (depending on the speed of the drives of course).

Everyone recommends 7200 RPM drives for recording. I think most new harddrives are 7200, but you may want to check that on yours.

Many thanks for those links, Have fine tuned pc now !!

Many thanks for everyones help, much appreciated ( I'm sure it won't be my last question, sorry!).
