ok, i was wondering how i could hang my microphone with out a mic stand. my vocal booth is not that big and i want to use all the space i can for the vocalist, so how would i go about hanging my mic from the ceiling safely

Essentially I would start with the idea of a mic stand bolted to the cieling, since you still would want to be able to adjust height and position.

DD,

Your link brings up a page that says "Sorry, No Matches Found".

Was it a link to one of those folding mic stands like what Frederic was using in his vocal booth?

Darryl (the other DD!!).....

Well, it would depend on the design of the stand and the kind of ceiling, but it shouldn't be hard to cobble together something.

Yep, that's the one I used. It's "okay". Comes with two springs, it really needs four, so I added two from a hardware store.

Maybe my mics are heavier than the rest of the worlds (yeah right). You also have to mount it to something. YOu can buy mounts, or make them:

I went to a local hardware store and got a couple of flanges which fit the pole of a mic stand, located the celing joists and screwed them to the celing. Then screwed the mic stands in, added a boom and now have hanging overhead mics. My purpose was to eliminate some of the clutter at floor level and for this it works great, I don't see why the same idea wouldnt work in a vocal booth. I still have plenty of adjustment for positioning mics, without the clutter of stands and cables. BTW the flanges cost me about $2.50 each and I already had the mic stands and wood screws so $5 and 20 minutes work is all I have invested in a major problem solution. Oh yeah I almost forgot, cup hooks in the celing to hold up the cables.

What is the material of the ceiling you are hanging it from? Do you have anything in the mounting to dampen vibration? (I can't tell from the description).
Seems like hard mounting that way would introduce sound (noise) into the condensor mic.
