I wrote this instrumental tune a few days ago and just finished a first mix.

I used some Indian instruments which I have been wanting to do for a long time. Sitar, tabla and a couple other cool sounding instruments.

It has more of a middle eastern sound than a clasical Indian sound.

Sound chain is Ibanez JS1200CA guitar-> Stereo tube pre amp-> Soundcard line in -> Guiatr rig 3 -> recorded and mixed with Acoustica's Mixcraft 4 - drums done with Acoustica's Beatcraft

Rythym guitar is my low B Strat

How's the mix overall mix sound so far?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Right click and save where you can find it :D

Edit: I just did this re-mix #2

Adjusted a bunch of levels all over the place.
Too numerous to remember all the level adjustments :)
Added a second rythym track and panned them hard left and right.

cool

Mix wise it's great, Prog rock is not really my thing but as far as balance and all that it's all good.

nothing stood out (in a bad way) for me, so it's all nice.

good mix.

Sounds awesome. I'd like to hear the rhythm guit a little more, though. It seems like it washes out when the lead comes in.

Cool, I'll note that and check it out later when I get time to fire up the mixing computer.

thanks

You should double the rhythm and pan them hard left and right.

Yeah, I think that would give it a heavier sound, which I like.

The main "vocal" guitar line is way on top of everything else. I'd like to hear it sitting in the mix a little better. The backing guitars are kinda washing out with all the delays and stuff going on and almost everything sounding kind of centered and the guitar tones all being similar. I'd like to hear a wider mix with maybe some different guitar tones for more texture. If you can, maybe get the ride "ping" over to one side a little more. Having the kick, snare, and ride/hats right down the middle is unnatural and kind of distracting. These are just my opinions.

It's a cool song though and you can definitely hear a middle-eastern sound to it. Good job. :)

This is cool. I like the mix My only gripe would be at the start the heavy guitar comes in too early. It would be nice to hear the indian instruments settle in for a while longer.
With a title like Hand of Shiva, it kind of reminded me of Spinal Tap. Don't get me wrong, this is no bad thing.

by the way that was the first mix I heard - just noticed there is a new one up

This fukin' rocks EL....man, this is the best I've heard you express yourself...dark and dangerous!!! Kickin' stuff..and it's great for me to practice with:D...

You should write more of your own stuff...or share it anyway....cause you can write your own songs.;)

And for some reason, I like the first mix better than the second.

Well hello again there True.

Yeah, I do write, but only guitar instrumental crap that I like. :D
Not a very popular genre any more except for guitar guys, and you of course.

I have another one that I can't quite get all worked out yet.

This one came off pretty easy.
Only about 12 hours of computer time on this one.

Still have that zep tune in mind for you someday. :)

see ya

Sweet tune...

When i read your first post, I was expecting something more acoustically middle eastern. So I was caught off guard by the heavy guitars so early in the piece--caught off guard in a good way.

I love the juxtaposition of the heavy chugging guitar against the ambient swirl of mid eastern-ness.

Works for me! :D

That's funny, that's what I normally do, except I usually do 75% left and 75% right.

I have been doing that a long time and really like the way that sounds.

I'm gonna mess with it some more.
I think the suggestion of waiting to bring in the heavy guitar on the intro was good.

I'm probably gonna make the intro 12 bars instead of 8.
Bring on the Indian instrumenst and let them play a bit before I bring in the Low B guitar chunk.

Thanks again for the tips and suggestions.

Really like the fat guitar tone on the solo solo....nice! Great groove to jam over as well, listening to the re-mix #2. This rocks...nice job!

Coolio.

Pretty damn original. I agree with the suggestion of waiting a bit before bringing in the electric guitar as I would like to hear more of the intro. I am on headphones but it seems a bit weighted toward the side with tabla..? Maybe I was just drawn to that sound as it came off really nice.

Really a cool creation on your part.

Hey EL...nice job...sounds awesome...didnt realize you were a member of this forum as well.

Im known as Vincent on the Acoustica forum.
