Not bad, for the price. I've used a stripped down Dell 2400 series..but it had twice the RAM and hardrive space and a P4 processor...about a $100 bucks more, and it has worked great with Adobe Audition. No complaints. It only had 3 PCI slots and two memory slots, but so what..eh?

you'll probably want a better video card to play counter strike but it doesnt have an AGP slot so you'd need to get a PCI card...(counterstrike nut here also) you'll definitely want to throw some more memory in it. theres only 3 PCI slots. can you build your own computer? you might be able to come up with a better one...but it might be a little more

this looks pretty much best for my money, but if you can find a computer from 100-500 dollar range thats better, please let me know! thanks!

I second this one, but if you're not keen on putting it all together yourself, it may present a problem. Newegg is a spectacular place to buy computer stuff - I've done it plenty of times.

if he has another computer at home already....he can look up websites that talk him through building it step by step. the manuals that come with the motherboard, processor, hard drive and possibly the case will also help you through this....hell he could IM me and i could talk him through setting it up

thanks a lot guys, im not too much of a computer kinda guy, more of a musician, but my brother works for HP, so im sure he could help me set it up! thanks so much!

now wait a minute... what about optical drives, operating system, maybe a network connector...
I didn't look at the motherboard...but a graphics card?

won't that significantly jack up the price?

Distortedrumble is right, much better to build one yourself than buy a a walmart POS.

Don't the Semprons suffer the same probs as the celeron/durons did? (Less cache and poor FP performance? - both are vital for audio/video processing)

For a full comp, you could build it for around $400. Hopefully, you have some parts lying around, or know someone who does. (especially opti drives - almost everyone has an old one lying around, dont they?!?!?)

oh...and how much can you get Win XP for?? $200, maybe...as a guess?

4 computers later and i think I've retired my 32mb video card. i bought it when it was the shit...it still works but its worthless....right up until i build another computer and then its the first video card i reach for. however you can find a cheap 32mb video card for 25 bucks....same with a cdrom and if you need a 3.5 floppy...they should be like 15 bucks.

not trying to knock the idea of building one, btw... as I'd just assume to spend a little more and build a better one myself... But, just had a couple of questions to add. I always came up to about 6-700 bux for a good system when I tallied things up....without going hogwild, mind you!

depends on where you buy it... www.newegg.com 99 or less full version
I don't think that version will work as a stand alone new install, will it?

ya gotta spend the 200+ pazootas, don't ya?
