I can't tell you how much or in how many words my ears are going to thank me for stepping up to the hafler!!!!!!!

One more thing before I shut up for the night, I noticed my "Let's face it I'm dead" title has obviously awoken the dead.155 readings with in 2 days? It goes to show you what people want to read "hey man let's check this out he's dead" lol...Well, I'm alive and enjoying my ears alot more than a day ago!! :D :D

hey harley,

the difference between the ra100 and the hafler cant be that much ,or can it?

Ok, no doubt it sounds better. Does it make your mixes translate better though. Does it reveal glaring mistakes in your former mixes?

I use an ra100 so I'll like to know

At this point I've only had 1 full day but I can tell right off the bat the signal is much cleaner than before,I've mainly ran some of my favorite cd's through my monitors and there tight, focused plus I'm running 85 watts per side through event 20/20's which can handle like 150 watts continous program versus the ra100 was 50 watts per side. After a session we'd play it back through the ra100 and it just didn't have enough oomph to drive the speakers. With no program material when I used to turn up the control room master I'd here noise/hiss now I can turn up the master all the way up and it's dead silent using the same cables as before. Not really fun though.lol...I have been pretty busy but Friday I'm doing another session but with the hafler in hand and I know this amp will give me a better reference of what's going on tape....:D

One thing I'd like to point out.... I have always powered the event's with the alesis and so it very well could also have to do with the speakers. The speakers really never had an amp pushing them, seriously I'd turn the ra 100 all the way up and the speakers lacked LF response always sounded a tad muddy not to mention the noise due to the amp. This combination I have now sounds alot tighter, better bass response, etc just better!!!!!!!Cleaner,Alot more usable power,I'm in heaven.......:D :D

congrats on the amp by the way.

I understand what you are saying about the amp plain sounding better. That can be good or bad. It can be good if you are listening for enjoyment or bad if it makes your old mixes sound better , you know (more oomph in the low end, more hi-fi) My old Alesis monitor twos made my mixes sound good. people loved hearing their mix in the room, but it did not translate outside the room.

Please play with the amp some more and let me know if it makes your mixes better, or what it reveals in your old mixes.

BTW, I love mixes that come off 20/20 they sound plain musical.

Harley -
I, too, would like to hear more about the actual difference in your mixes. I've got the 20/20's and the RA-100 also. My "control room" is tiny - just a small bedroom, and I've really got to crank the Alesis to get it up to 85 db. I will probably go with the Haffler too, on Blue Bear's recommendation, but after I get my Yamaha 2816!

well, I have spent some time with my new monitoring chain and have realized that alot of my mixes had way to much low end in them.I alway's played my mixes on other systems so I already knew that and compensated for that before my final mixdown. It's hard to determine the cause, amp, speakers, lower mixing levels?
I've realized that for me to hear what's really going on I have to start mixing at a louder level but as far as amp/speaker combo this is way better than what I had before.....:D :D

Tex,at this point I've done neither my friend,I've barricaded myself down in my studio until I can muster up some kind of miracle plea/apology and if that doesn't work than I'm just going to be laying a whole lot of pipe in the next few weeks until she get's over it....

harley96, you are braver than I.

Tell her you can sell the RA100 for $145 and you just trippled the quality of your reference chain for a mere $150. Actually she should despise you if you failed to take advantage of this shining opportunity. Besides, by doing extra chores/projects around the house you can pay for the purchase in a couple of months!

Wear you motorcycle helmet when you tell her. Maybe the humor will soften the blow--so to speak.

When did "laying a whole lot of pipe" become a chore? :-)
