Had a few beers and picked up the acoustic

The song is a couple of years old, but after few Sam Adams I got it in my head so I decided to lay down a couple tracks. It's one guitar, a vocal track, harmony track, and a couple handclaps tracks. It was like a little drinking party with myself while my girlfriend napped downstairs. :) I actually recorded it yesterday, but decided to mix it today when I was more sober. Well, at least a little more sober. It is after all Sunday.

Anyway, it's kind of a dark bouncy little tune you might dig on a Sunday. Cheers!

If I know you this won't be the last we hear of this. I'm thinking "The Play".

Sundays are made for fishing, which I'm thinking about doing here in a few.

Cool!

Hey, Dobro mouth trumpet! :D

Very nice, Tom!

Keep it like it is, it's perfect.

Yea man, I was thinking Dobro for sure after this. If I kept it dry, it would be even more like him. Maybe there's a collab here somewhere. :)

excellent! I think I like your acoustic orientated tunes best.. great clap tracks too! If you added a few more of those it would have sounded like a whole bar clapping along.. great melody! everything sounds great the way it is imop.. cool mouth noises.. I thought it was a synth or a guitar at first!

More claps indeed! Maybe I could request a clap track from everyone on the board and it will be just like we were all in that bar together. Or I could just go crack open another beer and mope about my electric guitar sound some more. :)

OK the mix is right on - the acoustic gtr is pefect for my ears (in my Sennheisers) - the clapping is hip - vocals perfect.

Besides the fact that you're a prolific writer you're also an excellent musician.

Nothing but praise and admiration from my camp! Hell even my dogs come into the room when I play your stuff on the speakers -they don't do that for me!

Thanks for sharing!!

Whoa this is like different from the last tune you posted. Am i crazy for thinking a little Tom Waits here? Very nice sounding and playing acoustic. Like the syncopation and the variations superb as always.

Hey townie reminds me of that movie they shot up in Maine.. "breaking away" does this have something to do with that.

Don't feel bad about the electric sound Tom, i'm looking at $3G's worth of amplifiers and what did i do on my vacation? bought a pod.

Hey Thanks Gitarz! Give that dog a biscuit for me too.

Khompy-

No probably not...I've been a fan for a few years. I'm sure I've absorbed a fair amount of it. Actually, I rather hope I have. Haven't seen that movie...is it any good?

It's a pretty old flick. It's about this local teen who's graduated high school and his 3 listless friends, none of whom have plans for college, so they're dubbed 'townies' by the locals.

He's obsessed with the italian bicycle racing team and pretends he's italian and races his bike but thinking about the movie now it seems like they tried to lift the blueprint of success from Saturday Night Fever.

It's a movie about biking/dancing but it's not, it's really a movie about coming of age and maturing.

Anway, i think it was set in Maine.

I'm at work and can't listen here. I'll check it later.

this was awesome.......great guitar playing....great song......

the vocal sounds sweet....did you record it and the acoustic at the same time?

how did you record the hand claps by the way? from across the room? what kind of eq and verb?

Hey man thanks. I was doing the guitar and vocal "live" at first, but by the time I got the levels right I realized I was a bit too buzzed for it. I'd get almost all the way through and completely blow something. So I decided to relax and lay them down one at a time. Was getting to be too much like work. The Eq and verb on this one are Waves. The hand claps I recorded with a MC012 to the left and the SP C3 to the right both about 3 feet away, and through a RNC compressor, 3:1 @ -12dB. Like Sam said, I should have done a couple more hand clap tracks! :)

This is really clean and great playing. I would leave it the way it is. I like how the acoustic sounded. You did this buzzed? Im impressed:) I do hear Tom Waits in the influence. When the song started I swore it was Clapton-lol
Good work

My first reaction was to get the vocal more up front--less reverb. Right now its too close to the space where the claps are. That guitar sounds so damn good Tom! For lack of a better word, it sounds really alive. Definitely great player+great instrument.

I think God put alcohol on this earth for a reason--this could be one of those reasons!

I don't know enough about recording and mixing to get my stuff out as fast as I want to. That's good sometimes. One good result of my not being able to get my new songs out there right away is that if I have to live with the tune for a while, that gives me the opportunity to realize when it doesn't belong out there in the public domain.

Tunes are like wine - you make the stuff, bung it onto a shelf, and then wait for a couple of seasons to see if it's any good.

I still appreciate the privilege of hearing these tunes that come up in transition.

YMMV

Tom ...... Tom .....the songwriting machine.........put in a beer; out pops a song. Wish I could write like that.....oh well, I have you to write the songs I wish I wrote....that's ggo enough.

OH, BTW.....nice tune!

love it! dang, can you do a whole cd of this stuff and sell it to me? i love this stuff.

i think i remember your guitar channel. dmp3 -> rnc -> computer right?

The Tom Baritones... lower... lower... hah... the human kazoo-trumpet... sweet...

This is the kind of stuff that keeps you honest, disconnects you from the process... the process of processed music...

Music 1st production 2nd.... probably what Erland is experiencing w/his 33 song experiment... makes it fun again.

standard tuning EADGBE? Proves you're a musician, since tonal "colors" like this don't escape my EADGBE guitar often (unless someone else picks it up :D)

Another thing that proves "you're the man"... you "Hooker w/a penis" ;) :D

Holy Shit! This is too cool for school. I LOVE it. I'd almost like to hear the whole schtick, you know, walking acoustic bass, side stick drums. Then again, it's hard to beat the way it is.
