Damn........I like the vocal much better in this version man. You toned down that effect some didn't you? I can hear all the lyrics much better...clearer.

yeah...

yeah, that was a really good call. I still think I could tone down the doubling up even more (where I fade it in now and in a few verses) now that I hear it. I also think I might need to tone down my reverb effect on the voice...it doesn't have much reverb (so to speak), but it seems to be "coloring" the voice a bit too much.

Do you think the overall mix is better?

I remember your surf song...not that that matters, but I just thought I'd mention it, lol

From :30-:35 the timing sounds fucked up;

I think the mix needs another high element somewhere...not EQ. Like a block or a shaker or some pick noise maybe...

Otherwise...tres' cool man. I like war songs that don't whine too much, lol.

YOU'RE VERY GOOD

Man its hard for me judge the mix overall from where I'm listening now, except for things that are more obvious. It does seem like there is a lot of mid goin on. So probably what Chris said. Maybe its only noticeable now that vocal has changed. Did you change anything else in this mix?

CHRISHARRIS: Thanks for the feedback! It means a lot coming form a seasoned vet like yourself. I kind of dig that surf tune...kinda fun.

As for this one, I checked at around :30-35 and I think it's just my weird phrasing (vocal) that makes it sound funky when the beat comes in, but you're right, it does make it sound "off". Oddly enough, I've got a little shaker in there for a high end, but it's pretty turned down. Maybe I'll turn it up a bit or try something different.

Thanks for the comments!

RichHead: I turned the vocals up and tried to push the drums back a bit with a different reverbs. The CNN thing is also controlled a bit better and I lost it at the end of the song. Basically things were set at different volumes with slightly different pannings and effects (if any)...mostly subtle except for the voice.

I like it. Struming that rythym to what sounds like a Ma7?? reminds me a lot of America back in the day. Just wanted to let you know I'm listening.

Good one

Joe

SMOKEPOLE: Interesting name by the way...

Thanks for listening! America huh? Well it is kind of an "American" song...any particular America song?

Any other advice, info or whatever out there?

nice clarity in the re-mix. no instruments tumbling over each other. Voice is nice, the verb isn`t completely transparaent like you said but it sounds good to me. The bass good, but I`d add a tad of mids to keep it bouncing just about the kick and below the snare. Sounds like you closed your eyes to mix this one so you could "see the scene with your ears", if you catch the drift.. :)

Hey! you totally nailed it on the head! I totally closed my eyes for a while. I think it's like the first time I've ever done that, but it really works. It really wakes up the ears. Thanks for the input!

anything else?

Any other advice on this before the link drops out of sight?

I'd have to say "Tin Man" not that I'm old enough to remember way back then. (Hee Hee) Just the strumming on the Ma7th though.

Smokepole= muzzleloader

It's a good tune
