A friend and his wife visited from DC and, to my surprise, the wife really liked the rack. I said, do you like the fact that it keeps them in one place? "No," she said, "I like the fact that there's a limit on how many you can put in there."

 That rules...

Link didn't work for me, it just took me straight to my own flickr account. Can you hotlink it...?

I'm a wallmount guy, myself. I HATE those Hercules things - I've never had a guitar fall out of a String Swing, the clamp feels flimsy and cheap, and it's a LITTLE narrow to work cleanly with a seven string neck with a locking nut. It catches on occasion when I was taking a guitar out, when I used to use them, and it seemed to do more harm than good (I almost dropped guitars a few times when I took them off the hanger and they got hung up). I've got three of them that've sat in my closet ever since I moved out of my old place, two apartments ago, and have since gone out and bought three more of these.

Ignore the mess - this is the majority of the collection.

Schecter C7 Blackjack seven string (the recent Schecters, say after 2001-2002 or so, are ABSURD for the price), '97 Fender American Stratocaster (bought new in '98, my first "good" guitar, modded to hell and back, and the one I'll probably take to my grave), and a '91 Ibanez UV7PWH (abused enough by a prior owner that it's got all the vibe of an old Strat, which is cool with me). Missing is a Squier Strat-VII (not bad for the price they go for, buut not enough of a "stratocaster" for it to be a keeper), a Mike Sherman five string I need to go pick up from the guy, lol, and my Martin acoustic, which for obvious reasons DOES stay in it's case.

None of them are that collectable (the PWH would be if it was in pristine shape, as there's only something like 800 of 'em, but it's been beat up enough by now that it's only worth maybe a grand and change), and they're hanging over my bed anyway, so if they were to fall they'd land on something soft. :D I've done the "collectable" thing in the past (an Ibanez RG7CST), and I was too afraid to play the guitar so it stayed in it's case and when I DID pull it out I was too afraid of hurting it to really play, so it got sold for a car down payment, and replaced with a $400 Schecter that, honestly, I'm happier with.

The only thing you have to worry about here is dust, and since they're always in site, they get a fair amount of playtime... :D

I always keep my guitars in their cases when I'm not playing them. I love them too much to do otherwise.

My experience is when kept in the cases, the "fur" inside the cases tends to "buff" the strings and I have to change them ALOT more often. However, the case is the safest place.
