This is driving me nuts,i have a new sw1000xg sound card, new god**mn speakers, new bloody guitar, new leads to connect everything, new preamp, everything ,but i have a problem, the speakers are great, they can handle any volume of sound from mp3,s etc,the bass just never breaks up its tight as hell, but when i play a clean guitar through them i hear a bee farting in a jamjar merrily accompanying me out of the speaker?it sounds like a speaker that has a pinhole in it,im at my wits end,ive tried messing about with all the volume levels etc in the XG works,XG editor that came with the sound card and the Windows volume levels but there seems to be some sort of,i dont know, impedance, line level mismatch somewhere.I have my electric guitar plugged into the 'instrument in' input of one of these- http://www.mtraudio.com/mtrcatalogue.htm scoll down you'll see a Gain Brain 2,and i have a lead coming out of this to the line in of my card,im beginning to think this preamp maybe wrong for what i need, anyone know?I ve got so much music ideas buzzing round in my head im nearly tipping over this is just so frustrating!hope someone can help, thanks!

If you could be very specific with your whole signal chain and any processes your are doing it would help. I'm guess your using a cheapo soundcard and that could be the culprit (are you using the line input?).

If you are using cheap home/computer speakers they do not reproduce live music very well at all and are very prone to distortion.

The trick to troubleshooting anything is to isolate the cause. Can you monitor your pre off of something without sending it to the computer? That will tell you if the pre is clipping. Follow the same logic and test every cable and box in the chain until you find what is causing the noise.
