About 10 years ago I saw a guitar size bass in a music store. The owner said it made it easy for guitar players to play because of its small size. I would like to pick up a small scale bass so My wife(who is very petite with small hands) could play it also. Does anyone know where I could pick one up?

Thanks.

I have an Epiphone Viola, this bass kicks ass. 30" scale, Beatles look, raging twangy tone. You can roll off the highs and use the bridge pickup for a clean tone, but it doesn't have the low end rumble (cause of the short scale), so why would you want to do that? Crank the treble and twang it, baby! Excellent for '50s, '60s rock, punk, garage, OK for jazz if you don't push it too much. Not good for funk, metal, reggae.

$500 or so.

I also have a Viola, and it is very comfortable to play. However, lately I've been using a Fender Musicmaster (a cousin to the the Fender Mustang) which are good short-scale basses of the solid-body variety. I might add once I started putting Rotosound66's on the Fender it has much more personality.

this is the only time a p-bass wont work :(

but i second the mustang and the musicmaster. both are very nice players and on the short end.

ive also played those epiphone bases that look like the guitars, im drawing a blank, are on the small side.

freak

There are also a number of semi-hollow basses of shorter scale - dipinto, epiphone, rob allen (spendy but nice!) plus all the old cheap brands like danelecto, silvertone, harmony, etc.

I've got a Bronco that sees a lot of work. The pickup sucks but can be easily replaced. I routed mine out and put a bridge pickup from a Les Paul in it ;)
