I'm going to be in Austin in a couple of weeks and was wondering if there are any decent guitar shops. I'm mostly interested in acoustics and/or vintage electrics.

Try going to the Collings and Goodall sites, and checking their dealer listing for Austin. I haven't been to guitar shops in Austin, but I bet if Quincy's Guitar sells Goodall, they carry a lot of great stuff in addition.

If you can get yourself on Lamar Ave. you'll find tons of cool little guitar shops. I don't remember the names of all of them, but some are pretty far south. Stay away from Guitar Center.

Austin Vintage Guitars.

They don't have a website that I could find. They are a little north of South Austin Music, also on Lamar, in the same shopping center as Ray Henning's Heart of Texas Music (which is also pretty cool, but more of a retail shop), right across the alley from the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater.

All three of these fit your bill.

You beat me to it, ggun.

Good shops. A friend had Guitar Resurrection re-implant the broken headstock on his Les Paul bass and the fix is invisible.

I bought a PRS from Guitar Resurrection last time I was in Austin.. Great guys, and a LOT of nice guitars, including Alembic, G&L, PRS, etc. They have more "in the back" that aren't on display.

They have a lot of botique amps, too. Dr. Z, Bogner, Bad Cat, THD, 65, etc. I didn't get to play any of them because I was serious about buying a guitar, so I brought my own amp.

Lots of acoustics as well.
