i didnt like the "custom custom" either...it was very similiar to a JB(which i dig) but with the volume rolled halfway back...

i liked the the "custom" and "custom5" thou.


mids are your friend...yes even for metal players.

1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom in Tobacco Sunburst. Original P/Us, but I have
a set of late '70s cream bobbin DiMarzios I'm thinking about installing....
Custom made ebony pickguard and original case

1985 Fender Jap Stratocaster, cream body, tremolo, with white pickguard and
rosewood fretboard- no skunk stripe. I never play it (not a Strat fan)
and it looks like it should be hanging on the wall at the music store! It
has the autographs of Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen,
and Vinnie Moore on it! Might be getting George Lynch tonight....

1988 Jackson USA Custom Shop San Dimas-built, in custom paint "Dokken
Bengal" (as listed on the build tag) with reverse headstock also tiger
striped. Single EMG81, Jackson Floyd Rose, boost switch, maple fretboard
with Dunlop frets ala Randy Rhoads models....Wanna sign this one, too,
George?? LOL

2 each 1997 Jackson USA Dinkys (S-S-H, stock Seymour Duncans) built in
Ontario, CA. with Floyds. One is all black, the other is antique violin
sunburst flame maple top and all gold hardware.

My favorite currently is somewhere between the black Dinky and the Les Paul Custom....decisions, decisions....LOL

Personally, through experience, all that equipment pretty much makes you broke... nothing more.

Some people think i'm a guitar god.. but technically speaking, i suck really really bad. Sure, i can play several songs, and hold my own.... but profesionally speaking, i shouldn't be held on a pedastal.

It's all about how you carry yourself on stage, and how you react with the music. Having all the gear in the world won't hide the fact that you look like a tree up there.... nice and still..... boooooorrrrrriiiiiiinnnngggg.

Even funnier is hearing the 'i've go a 19xx blah blah blah'... omg. Laughing my ass off!

UPDATE: George Lynch signed the Dokken Bengal Jackson last night....I figured that would be the more interesting guitar for his signature, but since I'm on his guest list for another show tonight, I'm sure he won't mind signing this one too. I'll post some pics ASAP....and in case anyone's wondering YES he's still a tone monster!! LOL

I think the whole point of this thread was to give everyone a chance to show off a little. The fact of the matter is, most guys are proud of their stuff, especially their guitars, and like to brag a little. It doesn't mean that they are "trees" on stage or even bring it all with them when they play. There are a lot of nice pieces listed here and they should be bragged about.

I happen to like simple as well. If you look at my list, I bring my LP and my Kramer to a gig, hook up my phase90 and wah and run it through my 5150. Thats it. And I still get a lot of "How do you get all those sounds?" when we play. The rest of my stuff has other uses or simple sentimental value...and I like to brag a little as well....
 
I built my rack expressly for doing gigs- I don't always leave both Riveras in the rack (they weigh @50 lbs. each and NEVER break down- either mine or anyone's I've heard of) so a backup isn't necessary. There are 5 cords to attach/disconnect- power, guitar, MIDI, and two speaker cables- and the front and back covers go on/off of the rack. Quick and easy, really....but part of my stuff is because I like to collect toys (bad case of GAS I guess- LOL) so yes, not all of it goes everywhere I go all the time- especially the signed guitars. That's what the matched pair of Jackson Dinkys is for- stage workhorses- in case one breaks a string or something all I have to do is switch and I have a nearly identical tone and playing action and don't miss a beat redirecting my thinking to adjust to a different feel or sound....Hey it works for me....DOH! I haven't had to worry about it for a while anyway, since I've been mostly doing vocals without playing guitar for the last few years anyway.
I also have a Marshall MG10CD that I use in the living room when I'm too lazy to walk into the music room or to play around with some friends without all the 'meat and potatoes'. But I just love the sound of a large rig- check out hugeracksinc.com and see I'm actually not one of the larger set ups out there! There's just no way to match the sound of several 4 x 12 cabs and lots of tube power!!
 
Simple, simple, simple.

I have a simple setup.

Acoustic -

1990 or so Taylor 815C retrofitted with a B-band undersaddle pickup and an internal condenser on a gooseneck, Core99 class A preamp, two signals out to
(a) a Presonus AcoustiQ tube blender (well, it has a wall wart - sortakindatubey), or
(b) into a Fender Acoustasonic Jr amp, or
(c) into Channel 1 and 2 of a Mackie Onyx mixer. So far the most accurate sound has been direct to the mixer.

1990s - something Cort spider resonator guitar - in a dreadnaught body! I use it for nasty blues stuff and slide work. No internal electronics here; just as SM57 pointing into the hubcap.

1959 Gibson LG2 - right now its in pieces. But it shall arise - YESS! It shall arise like a Phoenix from the ashes of gloom and neglect and it shall sing again and sing!

Electric -

Way cool black Cort 335 knockoff - 2001 or 2 or something like that. Someone fooled with it before I got it - EMG humbuckers and a volume knob that goes to 11. Dragonworks and I fooled with it during the last jamfest and finally got it set to play pretty well. Fun guitar.

I have a Digitech pedal/computer thingie that I don't hate as much as I used to. I just have to learn the damn thing. Digitech Hot Rod overdrive stompbox that is hell on wheels. I love it. It's really a rude thing - about as subtle as a brick.

My amp is a thing of beauty - a little black box custom built by Steve Gibbs (aka Thatupstateguy) and hosting an on/off switch and a volume knob. Based on the old Fender champ. All tube and all delicious. It develops about 15 watts.

My mobile tracker is an older AKAI DPS16 that allows me to catch eight tracks simultaneously. Great unit for field stuff.

That and a sound system is about it so far. There's a nice Kawai RX2 grand piano, but I'm not much of a player. Its my wife's piano and it seems to play a lot of Chopin.

I also have a turn of the (last) century banjo - ivory pegs, loose neck, all the signs of the real thing. :D
