Mixing and Mastering.
Anyone got any good hard rock/metal settings for guitar rig that sound anything remotely like an amp at all?
I can't seem to get anywhere near a good hard rock/metal tone.

Would be great if anyone was willing to share their settings.

Cheers,
Eck

I have some that sound like a buzz saw operating int the next room. interested?

I`m no big fan of the Rig itself.

But if you got the first version, I found that using the Mesa amp lookalike or the Plexi with the Boss orange pedal threw an eq works quite well.

guitar rig is nice, I actually find guitar combo's by NI are a little more realistic for some reason (cheaper too... just less choices)

I use Guitar Rig as a general sound magler. Things like using an LFO or one of the sequencers to modulate speaker size or amp settings or... and on... or.... You know, stuff that you can't do with the real things ;)

In short, I used it for the software that it is, rather than what it pretends to be :)

I prefer a different "Rigg"

I much prefer Diana Rigg myself. Good for getting hard as a rock, and likes both metal and leather.

Image isnt showing for some reason, could be my internet connection.

Cheers all.
Anyone wishing (dareing) to post some clips of their heavy guitar tones from Guitar Rig are more than welcome!
Would be cool to see if anyone actually can get a half decent tone from it.

good luck with that one. i tried GR out, and wasn't a fan of it at all. i've gotten much better tones out of the original amplitube, to be honest.

if you want a good hard rock/metal tone out of a DI, download the wagner sharp plug http://www.the29a.org/nickcrow/Wagner_Sharp_v0.6.zip then use some decent cabinet impulses after it

Sounds much better than any dist tones I've got from Guitar rig. Still pretty harsh though.

Thanks,
Eck

Have not had the chance to listen to the sample, but as far as harshness is concerned in Guitar Rig:

I recommend making good friends with that little "+" to reveal the "expert" mode controls on the modules. They allow for further tweaking of the module characteristics... One of my faves is using the Screamer, but turning the "Clean" knob all the way up. I love the way it sounds on bass as it tends to compress it somewhat and rolloff the highs, thus making things sound nice and warm. Those extra knobs definitely help shape the sounds on those modules, so I'd highly recommend you try them.

Of course one of my favorite things to do is to modulate those knobs with LFOs and the sequencers to create some rhythmic far out stuff that would not be possible with their hardware counterparts.

No matter what I try I alwasy seem to get a big massive low end, and harsh highs, and no definition. Kinda like white noise going through a big muff or something! :D

Guitar Rig sounds like doo doo. I have NEVER found a software guitar plug modeler that I thought was worth a $hit. They all sound sterile, crappy, and every other bad thing I can think of. Turning up the gain on any of the high gain models doesn't do anything but make it worse. You don't get the reaction of a real amp at all. I'd rather have an okay solid state amp than play around with those modelers. Hell, Line 6 POD is better.

Not that its going to be helpfull for you but I've tried (hard) to get usuable tones out of Guitar Rig 2 but couldn't. The only thing close was to run it through my 2x12 Avatar cab with a 57.
