Need to order a magazine subcription to help a friends kid with a school fund drive. These two were on the list. Any of them any good?

just order the musicians friend catalog. about the same thing if you ask me. :D

guitar one probably edges out in the education department.

guitar player is a little more geared toward the grown up crowd (or was back in the day). guitar one has some decent educational stuff and interviews with all the bucket heads of popular music. just take a big black marker and scribble out every other page to avoid GAS.

Except there is no GASsssss relief possible with GP or GO....

I don't know if a subscription to a British magazine is a possibility, but if it is, get 'Guitarist'. I get the three of them (Guitarist, Guitar One and Guitar Player) regularly, and Guitarist is most definitely the best. They do overseas subscriptions at quite a good discount. Plenty of technical info, and their reviews are the highest quality I've seen.

Out of the two choices, I would subscribe to Guitar One!

If he wants to learn a lot of songs, Guitar Edge (the new kid on the block) is the way to go. 12 songs every issue with some nice educational stuff as well.

A vote for Guitar Player here. As has been mentioned Guitarist beats both hands down as far as I'm concerned but I'm a little biased....

Weren't Guitar Player Readers the ones that always vote EVH best keyboardist?

Thanks gvarko...one of my better painting sessions. :D

I will say the same for those pick guards. I checked them out a while back and put the link up in the rep thread, because I was really impressed. Some beauties there. I even have a few of my favorites on file...because the memory goes from time to time. :D

I am seriously thinking of doing an axe project and if I do, I have thought about those pic guards.

Isn't Guitar 1 the magazine that comes with the CD with audio clips and videos on it? I've seen some cool stuff on there.

I believe that's Guitar World.

They both have CDs. I have subscriptions to both as well. Guitar One has a lot of instructional material that covers a few styles(metal, rock, blues & jazz). Guitar World is more celebrity oriented with a focus on rock & metal.
In the 80's Guitar Player was viewed as a stuffy old fart guitar magazine. A co-worker gave me a current issue about a year ago. Nothing has changed.

I'm a fan of Vintage Guitar.

Same here, but whereas GP & GO are like Car & Driver and Motor Trend, VG is like Vintage Ferrari Quarterly. 95% of the what's in there is stuff that you know there's no way you'll ever have, so you don't have to worry so much about the temptation. Like going to a strip club. You can look, but there's no worry about figuring out how to get it home with you. It's pure guitar porn.
