The old Yamaha PSR 500 is ready for the scrap heap and I need something for piano players to use in the home studio. We do little projects for old crooners out here in the desert where they sing covers while the keyboard guy plays. Real simple, and they order lots of CD's so it's worth keeping it going. But Paul the keys guy says my Yamaha sucks and I agree and I'm tired of remote recording with good pianos no matter how good they are.

I'm thinking maybe a used 88 weighted key controller or something like that. I'll probably run it through my Korg synth.

What's good? What to avoid?

Also, I'm thinking used.

From the Recycler ads locally:

Fatar 88 key controller, velocity, aftertouch, weighted keys $350
Yamaha PF-15 88 weighted keys $345

..........are these any good?

The Fatar is good, i don't know about that yamaha though...Does your PSR have midi out? you can just use it to control your synth if thats all you're going to do with a midi controller.. but i suppose if you want weighted keys and 88 keys at that. I'd go with the Fatar, unless the yamaha is better.

Thanks, it turns out those Yamahas are pretty old and the early ones don't have midi, that won't do.

The guy I do this with (named Paul Shafer if you can believe it) really overplays without a piano feel.

I'll look into that Fatar, the new ones are a lot more.
