Guitar Mix

I've recently had to start using a pa for our band and still don't know a lot,I want to run the guitar players sound thru the pa,If I do it with a direct box is does'nt get the effects loop,It's just a clean sound,We play on smaller stages and don't know if miking the cab will get too much bleed in from other sources..Can anyone advise me on this??

You can mic the cab. Everyone else has done it for the last 912 years. If the bleed really bothers you, see if his amp has a line out. If not; Hughes and Kettner Red Box Classic DI at zZounds. Works like a charm.

Close mic the cab....don't worry about bleed.

SM57 on the speaker to the PA - try different positions and get the optimal tone off the speaker then mark and do it every time.
