Just a quick question about mixing. I've gotten really into this band called From Monument to Masses (give them a listen here). In the song "Comrads and Friends" for instance, their guitarist layers his guitar parts in loops, sometimes 6 or 7 at a time, and they all seem to fit nicely. Does it sound like to you guys that he has all of his guitar loops all with the same EQ, as if they were all coming out of the same amp when they were recording? Do you think they were done seperately? How did he keep it from sounding too crowded?

Arrangement. The layered parts compliment each other musically.

I'd say the parts were all done separately, but really, anything he did with his amp, or EQ in mixing, is secondary to the arrangement.

It is usually essential to record parts with different EQ/distortion amounts when layering numerous guitar tracks.
For lead I turn the distortion down to like 20% where as I have my distortion at around 45% for rythym. When mixing I cut more low end for lead parts sometimes and add more high end at recording, on the amp and/or the guitar tone selector/knobs.

The music sounds nice. He used panning to seperate the guitar parts. Some of the guitar loops are really sweet.

Thanks for the responses. FYI: the guitarist for this band uses no pick. That's all fingerpicking style.
