guitar into computer question

Hello...after reading many different threads, I want to know:

Is the BEST way to record guitar into computer by mic'ing an amp?

Next, if I have an amp, but no mic, can I record from the headphone jack on my amp into my computer line-in and get good results?

Finally, if I have an amp, but no mic, do I still need something like audiobuddy pre-amp? or is the pre amp on my little combo practice amp the same thing?

I guess my thinking is this: get audiobuddy in order to use mic to record my amp into my computer, OR: don't get mic, don't get audiobuddy, just record straight from headphone jack on my amp into line-in on my computer?

Hope this makes sense...I have a SBLive card and before I even think about getting something different I thought I'd ask this other stuff first. Thanks very much for all help!

Have you tried the headphone jack? How did it sound?

Dude, try your stuff out...that's how you find out. Do you like it? You don't need a preamp the headphone jack will do that...sort of. A mic is the best way to go unless your amp happens to be a Tech 21 Trademark 10 or Line 6 spideer.

Every amp is different.
