Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting myself a studio amp. I play a Jackson SL-1 and a Squire Strat. I was thinking of perhaps something along the Fender line.

I have around $500 to spend. I'm not after anything loud, just something clean and sweet for a studio setting.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Cheers,

steve_reich_fan.

I had the same criteria and I picked up a Rivera Pubster. Twenty-five watts of tube sweetness. A bit more than your budget though at $700.

new - fender hot rod deluxe
used - fender princeton reverb

I have a princeton chorus and it sounds GORGEOUS! awesome sound with an acoustic plugged into it with chorus too by the way

i have a princetone chorus as well as the princeton reverb. they are completely different amps. the princeton chorus is a newer model solid state amp with (2) 10 inch speakers. the chorus and reverb circuits are pretty good too. i have no idea why they gave this amp a princeton label though. It is far from my princeton reverb. The reverb is a 12 watt tube amp with a 10 inch speaker. the reverb was produced in the 60's through early 80's. my reverb is a '78. an absolutely amazing amp. its definitely a low volume amp. the 12 watts allows it to break up pretty early. the amp gives an incredible blues tone when pushed.

the two amps i suggested (princeton reverb and hot rod deluxe) are both tube amps and have incredible tone. they aren't as versatile as a vox AD30 but they do their thing exceptionally well.

first off, what kind of music do you play?

If you can get an older Fender Princeton - do that. I know a guy who has used one for years and it gets wonderful, warm, sweet tone. And it's just a little guy.

i have a fender deluxe hotrod 212, and it is sweet.. especially if you play clean or bluesy or moderate heavy rock. I started playing hardcore/metal so i switched to a peavey ultra gain plus ... the fender wont cut it for metal. plus if you're lucky, like i was, you could find a fender HRD212 for about $500...

Yeah, like spoon said: What style of music do you play?

Also do you like to use the amps natural overdrive or do you like to supliment it with OD pedals?

While fender amps are great in their own right, their overdrive sounds are quite whimpy in my opinion.

Do you like Tube or S.S.? / 1X12 or 2x12?

as you see there are lots of options to weigh in making that descision.

Rick

I tried a dean exotica once after seeing the gorgeous pics in the MF catalog. I didn't really care for it, just sounded lifeless and boxy. I didn't get to try out the electronics, but unplugged it just didn't do it for me.

EDIT. Shit, wrong thread, I'm a dumbass.
