He plays a Fender P-bass, but bass is his secondary instrument. this kid’s a whiz on drums. (he’s got a sexy ocdp w/all dw hardware and zildjian a‘s and k‘s, lets face it-- he‘s rich, i‘m not). he plays drums in another band but he does bass with us. he has a 1 x 15” combo bass cab ( i am unsure of the brand but its around the 150 watt - 200 watt range ) as well as a Traynor 2 x 15” cab and i think its a 250 watt head .
recording gear/problem(s):
We ARE young and I am new to this. We are 15, 16, 16 and 18 years old. We all have many years of experience on our instruments however we are getting into recording independently with a 4 track recorder and this is obviously a new area. Setting aside the “Just go and pay for studio time” we want to be able to record our ideas and be able to indepently work a four track recorder so we can study and edit our ideas so that when we do decide to rent out studio time we can make the best of it. Now for the problems/questions. I recently was able to acquire a discontinued Tascam 564 digital 4 track minidisc recorder capable of editing tracks and ideas safely to be recorded directly to a minidisc in the built in minidisc drive. I got it for $260 and am told they use to retail for $1500

Being unfamiliar with this area i am not sure of how much of a good deal i got because i am reading your forums now and you all seem to be talking about recording via your computers with cakewalk or acidpro. However, I am still confident that this purchase wasn’t a waste ( I mean it can‘t be, they were manufactured to record SOMETHING!! ) . so please set aside using recording software, and renting studio space if you reply to this. What i really need help in is what microphones should i buy ? (i am on a budget if i can i am hoping to spend less than $150). especially in recording my combo amps, Shure sm-57? Shure pg-57? Marshall mxl series? Preamps? No mics at all? is there another method to recording your guitar? ( please realize my primary instrument is drums ) . your answer/ help would be greatly appreciated. alot of recommendations will be considered because ebay is an option for staying on my budget.
Now for drums , **without buying a drum mic set**. 1? 2? 3 overhead condenser mics? one kick drum mic possibly running through something like a behringer mxb1002 or eurorack ub1202 ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...8166729068/g=home/search/detail/base_id/88618 )mixer and then into one line in on the tascam 564. is this possible? any suggestions?
and this is last on my mind right now but, miking the bass cab? any suggestions?
your input will be greatly appreciated , thank you very much
