I've done a lot of live sound, and a lot of recording of guitar cabs. To me, it depends on the room, and the sound the artist is striving for. If you are using a Marshall SS, and are looking to get a Peavey XXX, I'm guessing that your using a fair amount of lead and crunch in you playing. I've tried just about everthing from a U47 to a peavey 45i, and had decent results, but more often than not, I reach for a $100 dynamic. 57, 609, 5i, all seem to do a good job of allowing the guitar to sit in the middle of the mix between the bass and vocals. I have never had great luck with a condensor mic live. That is not to say they don't work. And I never had a feedback issue due to a condensor. Feedback is usually related to the monitors and room eq. If you ring the room proper, the gain structure and mic type is a non-issue.
