I'm going to be recording my amp (last time i used a v-amp pro, first time with a tube amp!) and i have a couple of SM58's, but everything i read says A. to use an sm57 and also B. sm57 and 58 are very similer. Can i expect similer results or should i try to get hold of a 57?

Thanks!

Amp is a Ashdown fallen angel 60w combo, guitar is tuned down to drop B with an emg 81 in the bridge. Settings are a lot of gain and treble, mids 3/4 up, bass around half.

Unscrew the Wind Screen "grayish, silver, ball screen" on top of the 58.

with it off, you now have a 57

Well i've heard that from some sources but other say that the frequency response of the 2 mics is different.

57 vs 58

they are basically the same mic ... very minimal difference of polar pattern and freq response. if you take off the top screen of the 58 then you are even closer to having a 57. instead of buying a 57 when you are already have a 58 you are better off saving up to invest in a nice condenser mic in the future.
