Very cool indeed.

While I'm sure you may be somewhat terrified - remember one thing:

They selected you over what is likely thousands of others. These means you are good enough to be there and you deserve to be there!! So make sure you enjoy the experiance, tell your self "it's just another gig" and play your ass off.

F'n Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!! Now go shred some leads and make these bands that DONT put leads into there music...sorry that they didnt practice there scales!

If that made any sense.:)

I hope the judges aren't going to select the winners based purely on speed and technical wizardry. Yes, you've displayed a technical proficiency that most of us will never attain. I don't think it's humanly possible to play faster than that! But that 'wow' factor gets old quickly - I couldn't listen to a whole album of that. What's missing is the sweat, heart, soul and passion behind the flurry of notes. It sounded technically precise, but a little dry and clinical to me.

I'm assuming your 9 opponents will be able to shred with equal aplomb. The winner will be the one that moves people, be it with one note or with 16th note triplets. Slow it down occasionally and really let the guitar sing (or scream) and you'll come out on top.

Just one very slow guitarist's humble opinion :D

Thanks, I appreciate your honesty!

I have no desire to overdo the technical thing for them....I've already given that part a lot of thought....as I'm sure there will be a fair share of sweep-tapping neo-classical players doing that, so I am just going to play naturally, with little flash and just try to play as musically and emotionally as possible.......my biggest inspiration is my 2 1/2 year-old daughter, and with her in mind, I should be able to tap into some pure emotion.

With a child as your muse - you cannot possibly lose! I have a 2 year old also and I'm well aware of the profound impact they have on us. Best of luck in the competition!

Scott, that absolutely blew me away. Congratulations on deservedly getting that far, and best wishes in getting farther.

I am positive I could correctly tell you that you are wrong about that, and you know what I mean.
;)

knock their socks off, Scott.

this clip reminds me of this site i used to be a member of.. something like guitarwar.com maybe. its probably still a site but back then it was black and neon green and everybody submitted a bunch of crazy sweeping solos over really bad midi clips. it was cute.

Really? Cute?

Cute enough to enlist the following players on my next C.D.: Virgil Donati, Rufus Philpot and Steve Weingart (and special guest bassists Gerald Veasley, Gary Willis, and Keith Horne); with special guest solos from Scott Lerner, Chris Poland, Scott Henderson, Guthrie Govan, Ron Thal, Joel Hoekstra, Greg Howe, Raphael Moreira -- and will be produced by 3 time Grammy winner: Anton Pukshansky ....ALL are confirmed.

My last C.D. made it to the finalists list of the Grammys this past year.

First of all, the tracks were done by the keyboardist FROM the Brecker Brothers.

Second, I didn't sweep or employ anything remotely resembling the 80's style shred.

My heros are sax players like Brecker and Steve Coleman, not sweeping 80's shredders.

You don't have to "like" it, but grow up and get some tact.

Peace,

Scott

That is some truely great playing...your style is somewhat unique which is hard to come by these days.
Good luck...keep us posted on your progress.

btw - your style is definitely NOT 80's shred.

I hear a John Scofield, Al DiMiola thing happening. Not enough to be called a clone, copy or rip off by any stretch. I know exactly where you are coming from when you say that you get some inspiration from Sax greats. My buddy takes that approach with guitar as well.

Some people just can't be happy for other people. Especially if the latter are more talented!

Keep it up, win the contest and make a ton of dough as the next big thing!

Carl

Will they be showing it on TV? You are so lucky you get to see Joe Stratini.

I think you should play the version of Giant Steps on your site when the big day comes. That is fantastic! Great composition & great musicians!
