I’ve been using Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro for about the past 1-2 years now and it has suited me well. I’ve been thinking that it would be nice to have some of the additional features included in Sonar or CoolEditPro (namely the time stretching features, and the ability to put more than three effects on each individual track).
I’m thinking about taking the leap, but I wanted to know if anyone has been in a similar situation, and what they did.
I downloaded the 21 day demo version of CoolEditPro, and am finding it to be a hugely different animal than CW GTPro. I don’t really like the interface (probably due to the fact that I’m so used to the simplicity of GTPro, in terms of saving, setting up to record, and on and on....). I suppose I should, and probably will download the demo version of Sonar, but I’m a little peeved that at the Sonar folks because the demo version does not even allow 1 minutes worth of saving (meaning I can’t tweak till my hearts content on Monday, and come back and tweak some more on Tuesday), like CoolEdit, nor is the time stretching feature enabled (one of the specific features I’m interested in checking out in a new program). My other concerns with Sonar is it’s stability on my system (AMD Duron 700mhz, 383mb ram, 16mb video, MAudio Delta44, recording 2-4 separate tracks of digital audio at a time). Apparently my current system far exceeds the minimum system requirements for CoolEditPro, while it just barely meets the minimum requirements for Sonar. I’m planning an upgrade soon (got most of the parts, now I just need the courage), but I’d like something that would work with my current system.
Does anyone have any thoughts on a system with the simplicity of GTPro, but bells and whistles of a more enhanced interface? I’d be willing to consider other programs other than CEPro and Sonar. Price is really not that much of a consideration.
Any thoughts from individuals who've had experiences with GTPro and then 'moved up in the world' (as well as anyone else, of course) would be appreciated...

PS. I have been checking out the discussions of the individual interfaces on this bbs...it has made me even more confused.
