GT2 installation problem

I have a friend who has downloaded and installed the demo version of Guitar Tracks 2 on his computer. It apparently installs just fine, but when he kicks up the program, he gets a bright green line across the top of this screen, but nothing usable. He's got a 500 mHz Pentium II with 128 MB RAM and a soundblaster 128 soundcard. His computer is a Gateway, if that makes a difference. I have several other friends who either have the storebought version or demo version of GT2 on their machines, with no installation problems at all.

Any ideas to recommend to my friend? He is in another city, so I can't go over and mess with his computer. By the way, it's not a screen resolution problem. He's tried a variety of resolution settings, to no avail.

Peace.

I use CPA9 and I occasionally get that same line across the top, it means I have done something cakewalk doesn't like and if I re-boot it goes away and everything is OK fine.

So, occasionally you get a single green line, and no other visible console or anything else? I think he's rebooted a time or two, as well as reinstalling a couple of times, but I'll pass that on. Who knows...maybe it will magically work at some point? <g>

Yes, the line will appear when cakewalk is closed or minimized, I have never seen it when the cakewalk view is open. This is only a very occasional occurence. If it appears all the time on the pc you are speaking of, I would check the control panel for multi-media bangs (!) make sure your soundcard properties are configured correctly. Also upgrade to the newest drivers for your card. Make sure the harddrive is clear of unwanted debris.

Good suggestion. I'll pass this on to my friend. He installed ACID music with no problems, and it works just fine, so the soundcard is properly working, I would think. This appears to be a graphics issue specific to this Cakewalk product and his Gateway computer, for some reason.

By the way, what is a multimedia "bang?" Sorry for my ignorance. <g>

for windows 98
Left click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop - go to properties - click device manager tab - double click sound video game controllers - a list of your drivers will appear - if something isn't configured properly it will have the exclamation mark (!) on it, or perhaps a warning sign.

Aha! Now I understand. I'll tell him to look for "bangs," and now I know what to explain to him.

Thanks.
