GT Pro upgrade to 2.1 XL

I use M Audio Omni Delta 66 soundcard. The breakout box has two mic pre's which have improved the quality of direct guitar recording, but I don't own any Mics. Have $300 to spend. I could upgrade to Sonar, but I hesitiate because I am really comfortable with GT Pro. I suspect that buying a decent Mic may be more bang for the buck.

I like the idea of getting Sonictimeworks mastering EQ software with the upgrade, but frankly I don't know that much about it's use.

Will the quality of my recordings improve by making this upgrade or will I just be adding software features and get additional plugins?

No, not instantly. I would get some decent mics first.

And by the way, the Timeworks plugins are only bundeled with the XL edition.
