I do a mix, and I play it through my monitors, two sets of headphones, and a couple of commercial CD players. No problem.

So, I bung the same CD into my diskman, and suddenly there's sibilance on esses and such, although the very same walkman doesn't produce the same sibilance on commerical CDs. WTF?

I wonder if your overall mix is too hot for the diskman? I don't really know, but if your mix peaks at 0db, it may actually clip on a cheaper system. I've read that pro mixs are mastered to peak at -0.2 or even -0.3 to account for this.

Other than that, I have no idea...

Take care,
Chris

Okay, I did it. I cut the overall mix level by 0.5 dB. I listened to the new mix and the old mix twice. The 'quieter' mix has less sibilance and almost no distortion on the worst part.

I'm thinking you're right, Chris.

Oops!

Now I know why some guys told me they can't listen to my records... I always thought the CDRs were defect or so...
