Grouping Tracks Won't Work

I'm starting work on my first big project. I'm recording my bands EP. We laid down some drum tracks today and I was wanted to go into reaper to fix up the timing a little. I was planning to do it by slip editing. But I could not get my grouping to work correctly. I would hold shift and click the first drum track and then click the last drum track and then hit the "g" button. I want to group the tracks so that all the of the drum tracks move together when I edit them. But after I attempt to group them I click what I thought I had grouped and it doesn't select the group it just selects the singe track, I can't figure out how to get them to group together properly. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Help would be much appreciated!

I just tried grouping a couple of ways:

I selected a number of takes across different tracks, and hit "g". Little green chain things come up and show that they are group, and they can be moved as a group.

I then selected a number of takes on the same track (by using the motod you describe), then hit 'g'. Likewise the green chain things appear and the group takes can be moved together.

I'm not sure what's going on if this is not working for you.

I assume he clicked one track/take, but not the 'g' to make Reaper select the whole group. You can also select all the tracks you want to include by holding 'CTRL' and clicking on each.

Right-click the "Item Edit Grouping" button on the main toolbar (the one that looks like a chain in REAPER 4) and select "Selecting one item selects group"

I would hold shift ...
click the first drum track ...
then click the last drum track ...
then hit the "g" button.
The way you describe it sounds like you weren't actually selecting all the tracks. You're still holding shift between when you click the first track and when you click the last, right?
