.....And if said fix involves a Jenson transformer, the cost will be as much as the unit went for. In the end, it is likely that we will learn why a good pre-amp costs $1000+. This will probably be a good thing as first hand experience tends to go a long way.

He's no longer with Jenson. As I understand it, it would be a custom designed transformer(s) for these pres. He apparently has already been approached by some GB members to fix their pres and thought this might have wider applicability. The DIY folks are very interested because they can use the traffos for other projects as well.

I'm supposed to be getting some replacement ribbons from Chance, too (as well as shockmounts for the ACM-3s). I won't be needing more than one or two of them, and would be more than happy to ship the rest out to anyone who needs them for the cost of postage.

FYI, I'm selling my 81 if anyone is interested. Check the Free Ads section and make me an offer.

I ordered 3X 81, 3X 84, and 4X 73 preamps. I guess I got "half" lucky because two of the 73s are fine, one is useless, and the other is still in the box waiting to be tested. Similar results with the 81s and 84s...two each are fine and one each hum like crazy. I'll try various mod suggestions as time permits.

Mics I ordered seem to be ok for the most part, but a friend used them on a session after putting up a couple of his client's Coles ribbons. He said everything paled after using the Coles, even the RCA ribbons that they had.

I'm trying to get some sound bytes from my friend to post, but most of his clients are not willing. He has some personal stuff he'll be doing in the next month or so which he will pass on to me.

Aloha.

I *love* the ACMP-73 for DI guitar and bass!

I like almost all of the mics, too. I think I'm really going to like the ACM-900 when I've figured out the best ways to use it.

I completely agree. The 73 is pretty fantastic, and the only noise I get is the same buzzing everybody gets ONLY when the EQ is engaged at 360Hz. Solution? Don't EQ any at 360Hz. Not a problem.

What's the deal with the transformers and mod kits that were discussed here?

What's the deal with the transformers and mod kits that were discussed here?

Do you mean for mics or preamps?

Regaring mic transformers and ACM-1200 component upgrades, I've been told we'll hear something "VERY soon." I think the Lucas CS-1 is eating up the attention of the folks who will also bring us these new TnC pieces.

Regarding the preamps, Steve Hogan has designed a replacement power transformer; prototypes are in the works this week. He has one of each ACMP preamp model en route for testing.

I received half my order a few days ago.................unfortunately, there's been no word on the rest of the order

Hey guys
It's been a while since I've posted here. I have been extreemly busy this year.
When I have time to post anything, it's usually on PSW and hopefully someone brings it here and the other foras. We're on the final leg of shipping. Only a few to go. Next I will deal with contacting those who never put their shipping info in their users console. After that I'll be shipping those long awaited replacment ribbons and shockmounts. I haven't had time to read all the posts since I last posted but hope to get caught up soon. I have been useing the 73's DI a lot for guit and Bass and am loving it. I'm still trying to figure a way to (1) include the shipping in the original purchase price as that would save going through this process twice. If that were the case this time, everyone would have had their gear within 2 months after receiving them from the manufacturer. (2) I am shocked at the cost of shipping overseas!! There have been several who have paid in excess of $1K to ship from here. Those of you are actually paying duty and import costs TWICE!! (from China to here, and from here to you). I would think if someone from the main countries like the UK, Australia, and Canada got their bulk orders to one person in each of those countries directly from China, that one person could actually make some money (to charge for the service) then distribute, and everyone in those countries will still save a TON of time and money. (it would also save me the headache of dealing with USPS) With something like this in place, you guys will be getting the same deal as us here in the USA.
much has been learned this time around. I was expecting only a few hundred pieces not 6000. Many of the last invoices will be invoiced tomorrow (Sunday)
Well, I have an 11:00 meeting with an old friend now (my little red record button) hope to be back soon.

Anybody know the specs for the inductors used in the ACMP-73? I'm going to order Carnhill parts for my 81 anyway, and I figure I should replace the ones in the 73 while I'm at it.

are you planning on changing the mic, line, and output transformers with carnhills too?

I honestly haven't thought about that aspect of it, but it's not a bad idea.

I've been considering it. When I have the money, I'm going to replace the inductors with the carnhill one's and I'm just hoping that someone replaces the input and output transformers with carnhill before I make my inductor order so I know for sure they'll work in our pre' and I can order everything all at once.

What I'd like to know is who the idiot was that put a declared value of $20US on the documentation for each of my preamp packages.............I'm now having hassles with Customs who think the undervaluing was a deliberate attempt to avoid import duties................just another example of how this GB has turned into a bloody nightmare.:mad::eek:

excuse me? I used to buy 1u rack gear for 15 usd on fleabay. I never had hassle with customs. "undervaluing" as an argument ??? I cant even imagine that... ppl these days...:p:p:p

Yeah...devaluing things when shipping overseas is not usually a good idea. The chance that it'll cause problems eventually is pretty much 100%.

Oh dear. Chance is setting you up to commit tax fraud. People get busted on this all the time, it's not worth trying to duck the duty.
