Group Buy Interest?

Thanks for that info BigTom.... nice to know all's normal on the user console then, guess I'll see the gear in January some time then (hopefully).
 
Hey all,

Just chiming in to share some really quick, incredibly non-scientific (or even very useful) experience with my gear so far.

Finally had a minute to plug everything in, let it warm up for a few hours and run signal into my board so I could hear it through headphones. I got two 1200s, two 310s and two ACMP-84s and all seem to be functional. Nothing's broken or sounds weird. My initial reaction is that all the mics sounded pretty good on my voice though I didn't record anything or compare them against anything besides also quickly plugging in my SE 2200A which happened to be up on a stand. The pres sounded surprisingly good, though, again I didn't record anything or do any real tests. Flipped the EQs in and out and didn't notice any noise floor issues. I do get that loud POP that everyone else seems to be getting half way up the gain knobs on the pres. That's annoying but not terrible.

The one issue I ran into that I haven't read in any other posts yet is that on one of my ACMP-84s the phase flip switch seems to act like a substantial high-cut filter. I tried the phase switch on the other pre and it didn't seem to change the sound of the signal at all. Anyone else experience this?

Besides that, I'm pretty happy with what I've heard so far and look forward to actually putting the gear through its paces.

Next stop will probably be inserting the pres on my 2-buss and seeing if I like what the line amps and EQs do to the sound.

FYI. My gear should be showing up next week. 1 pre and 2 mics = 37.7 lbs. Shipping to FL was $52.61.

according to FedEx...mine will arrive on Dec 30. two 73's, one 84, one 1200, one 6802, and one ACM3. shipping was $101 and some coinage to South Carolina...
 
i guess i should be grateful that the universe is providing me with such a rich opportunity to practice patience...

My guess would be acoustic phase cancellation because you're using your voice and headphones, but then it should happen with the other pre too.

Good point, but I highly doubt it was acoustic cancellation, though. I didn't have the headphones up very loud and was using Extreme Isolation headphones.

In the case of your own voice, the isolation really doesn't help. The sound is carried through your bone structure more than it is through the air.

It may be the one that OTHER pre is the one that is not working correctly.
 
For some reason I stopped getting E-mail notifications of new posts. Anyway we are way past the 3/4 way through this shipping process. I just invoiced quite a few international orders (Isreal, UK, and Austrailia)
 
Just an update...

All my gear showed up yesterday. I'm home on two weeks leave (before heading back to the desert, yay). Everything seems to be in good shape - I'll try to at least pass a signal through the 81's....kind of like a "fleece". If the EQ hiss/noise issue is present, I'll contact those of you looking to purchase an extra couple of preamps. Given the seemingly easy "fix" for the 73's hum, those are keepers!!!

The microphones (2 each of ACM-3's and ACM-310's) look fantastic. Again, I need to pass some signal through them, but they were packed wonderfully and the boxes/cases seem first class.

Good stuff all around...Happy New Year everyone.

Just got my stuff, and managed to unpack it without having the kids destroy anything. I got three ACM 1200's (one for my Brother) and one 73-ish preamp. Aside from the now-expected dents at the top of the mic grills for the 1200's (one mild, one medium, one pretty ugly), everything looked dandy. I'll hook it all up and start burning it in as soon as I get a chance... and we'll see if I got one of the noisy preamps or not! :rolleyes:
