Group Buy Interest?

I'm not sure why you're even posting in this thread if you didn't take part in the group buy, but if you had spent money, perhaps you'd be more interested in the posts regarding upgrading the purchases.

Mshilarious is a long time contributing member to this forum. That's reason enough for him to particpate. IMHO, he has valid concerns about the commercialization of the forum. The problem, as we've been discussing it, is that the GB, with it's attendant spin-offs, is a bit different than the standard commercial spamming by a vendor. On one hand it is desirable for those of us who are GB particpants to be aware of various opportunities for services or gear related to the GB. The danger is that permitting commercial postings is a slippery slope that can lead to the forum becoming clogged with commercial messages. Perhaps the resolution is for a separate GB related forum where commerical messages related to the GB are permitted when made by GB members.

Any other bright ideas?

Still not fair to advertisers. I spend ~$150/year advertising on just this forum, plus I chipped in some bucks to be a site supporter back when Dragon needed some cash. The latter might not cut the Grey Poupon with the new owners, but I would think the former should . . .

Would it be possible to get back to the discussion about how to fix the problems/design flaws with these preamps instead of this pissing match?

Brad is just trying to offer a fix and get his cost (both materials and time) re-imbursed.

It's more than anyone else has offered. Not saying that people aren't working on it but Brad found something that worked and let us know. I'd like to know just what the procedure is and maybe see some pics but thats up to Brad. But until someone else finds a better solution, why don't we get off the guy's back with BS semantics.

If you think that it was Brad's intention to take advantage of this community by forseeing the sloppy design and untested manufacturing process and quickly put together a fix and charge out the a** for it, I'm willing to bet that your wrong.

So lets get back to the fixing stage.

I will vouch for mshilarious scrupulously avoiding any appearance of, let alone actual, spamming on this board. I will also vouch for chance repeatedly turning down many people's offers to add a few bucks to their payment as a gratuity.

Sorry, Brad, you just can't waltz in here and offer your services for money. When you or your supporters say your costs include your time, then you're a business.

WORD!!!

ms, you've made your point (more than once) so please leave it alone.

Well, there would probably be a lot of offers if free advertising were allowed.

He didn't need to foresee it. The opportunity fell in his lap.

That said, I think Brad was acting with the best of intentions and is just trying to help. But that doesn't make it right.

Well, we're just waiting on moderators now, and as I said right off, I don't expect they will do anything either way.

As for my advice on fixing the pres, I refer you to the first response in this thread: DIY. zmix has already posted the fix. Somebody posted a picture of (I think) Golden Age, which is a pre from the same manufacturer, except with an external power supply and shielded inductors. That's a pretty good hint. So swap the transistors, move the transformer to an external box if rotating it doesn't work, and buy some mu-metal.

i think the crux

of the spamming argument

is that brad just seemed

to come in off the street

to hawk his wares

others here who have had

products to sell

have been long time members

and have posted

helpful information

prior to any

commercial intent

so thanks for your posts, brad

but enough is enough

about $$

i'm sure we'd appreciate

any information

on how you went about

improving (but not fixing)

the hum problem

there are many helpful posts

on group diy and psw

for those of us planning

to do our own fixes

-There are no inductors in the Golden Age pre at all as it has no eq

And please cool down everybody

Brad McGowen... Thank You for coming here and trying to help out the Group... those who Paid for and are Using the gear that this thread is related to. Why anyone would go to the trouble to stay informed of the Group Buy saga everyday and Moderate this thread who doesn't even own the equipment bamboozles my brain.

The only thing that comes to mind is that TV show in the 90s with Chris Elliott... He was in his 30s and still lived at home with his parents making microphones that resembled his penis... or maybe he had a paper route... anyway I think that show was called... GET A LIFE

Even if you sold many of the Hum canceling kits I'd project your Profit and Loss statement to no more than a Hobby.

There's quite a few people that pimp their gear, products, and services here... I guess if you would have waited till someone posted a question... "What can I do about the Hum in my 73?" and then responded w/ a solution and a "check out my web page for more info" you would have been OK w/ the "Community Members".

Anyway... Thanks again Brad and if my 73s have issues I'll more than likely contact you over at GS. I also promise not to go tell my Mom on you.

Another way to cancel an annoying hum. :D

thread = derailed.

i'm pretty sure this thread is titled "group buy interest?" and not "advertising/spam policies on homerecording.com".
