Here are my two channels of Wunderifitwerkz 84 sitting nicely between my John Hardy M1 and my Demeter VTMP-2c. :D

And no, I still haven't glued that silver cover back onto the knob. Gotta get some glue. :o

I never thought I'd say this to you--but here goes: Nice rack! :D

Happy Thanksgiving and have fun with the new gear!

You're not the first guy to compliment my rack. ;)
A good Thanksgiving to you and yours as well. You should drag your drummer son-on-law into the basement and get a Christmas CD recorded. :D

Here's a few I'd like to see on the track list...
The Little Drummer Boy (obviously)
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Winter Wonderland
Baby, It's Cold Outside (you'll need a female duet partner though)

Okay, I have about another hour to stare at my rack before I have to leave.
Be well.

For those who said the 1200 was on the thin side--did you have the bass roll-off engaged? Seriously, mine sound thick and full--at least on my voice. Even set to omni, it still a good amount of oomph.

My pre has that pop others were talking about. (At the least the one I checked.) Going from the 5th to the 6th (or is it 6 to 7?) click on the gain produces a really loud pop/beep. Odd. Have I missed a discussion on what's causing that?

I agree on the 1200. Mine sounded really good on me. Unfortunately, I have a dodgy capsule or something that causes audio to cut out on mine if any sort of 'plosive hits it. I am bummed about that.

The pre pop/oscillation thing is normal. Here is a response I got for Zmix on Prodigy:

This is a point on the switch where N£V£ put in an additional "OFF" position on the switch. I think that this is where the additional preamp stage gets switched in.. I'll glance at the schematics when I get a second.

EDIT:

Yes this is exactly the spot where the additional gain stage gets switched in.
7th position up from fully counterclockwise.

This ONLY happens when the mic/line switch is in the "mic" position, so you may want to switch to the "line" position when rotating the switch past this point.

Great info! Thanks for that. I'll check it out on the line setting later.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy your new gear. And for those of us still waiting... hope you get your stuff by Christmas.

I've never owned a ribbon mic before and I'm wondering how sensitive to SPL the group buy ones are. I got a ACM-3 and a AMC-900 and I want to know if I can put it on a loud guitar cab. I've heard that they are more sensitive then other mics and I really don't want to blow any of them up. What about a bass cab? I'm guessing miking a bass drum is completely out of the question for a ribbon...

Even though it's Thanksgiving, I managed to sneak away to the the studio and play with the 1200's and the 73's a bit. Actually brought my brother and his kids--all aspiring musicians. The banged on pianos, guitars and drums while I moved various mics around the room--all going through the new preamps.

Guess what?

I found a problem with the ACMP-73 Pre...

The problem? I only bought 2. :(

Yeah...I'm really regretting I bought only 1 84 and 1 1200.
I like pairs of things better and if I knew just how cool this gear was going to be I would have ponied up for at least another 84.
I guess once you get this stuff in hand it comes to life and when you remember that all you had to go on was some less than stellar preamp pictures/specs and generic mic pictures/specs.

The problem isn't so much spl. It's bursts of air. you'll be fine on guitar.

The crowley and tripp el diablo ribbon mic can mic bass drums though. It's not your typical ribbon and you'll have to sell your soul to get one though.

This is getting weird.

Just got this email today

"Sorry, we were not able to deliver postal package you sent on November the 1st in time because the recipient’s address is not correct.

Please print out the invoice copy attached and collect the package at our office.
If you do not receive package in ten days you will have to pay 36$ per day.

Your UPS"

There was nothing attached to the email either. After googling the email, thinking it could be spam I found this site

http://www.v8cars.hu/forum/topic.php?topic=25

About half way down there is a reply from "Terry~N~Shari", ok this is REALLY getting weird.

Firstly, I thought international orders were being sent via USPS not UPS.

It also seemed odd that i'm only getting this email today, and it is reference to November 1st, almost a month ago. I've spoken with USPS many times over the last 4 weeks and this could explain why they have no record of a shipment for me.

Chance, was the package sent via UPS or USPS?

A few posts above that "Terry n Shari" post there's one with your email quoted in it along with an email addy which happens to be from the Oklahoma Dept., of Environmental Quality.......................go figure that one out.

Also, while I don't speak Hungarian, I did notice in earlier posts there, that there were references to Hungary's postal service.

Check your PMs shortly.

Wreckd,

This may be of interest....................:

"This one is apparently legit - better safe than sorry, I suppose.

Subject: UPS/FEDEX delivery failure REAL VIRUS ...

This is confirmed as true. It originally came out in July 2008, but is apparently still around. The Snopes site says it applies to both FedEx and UPS. I believe I saw one of these not to long ago. Deleted it.

With Christmas fast approaching watch out for this... be alert.

================================

The newest virus circulating is the UPS Delivery Failure. You will receive an email from UPS Packet Service along with a packet number.

NOTE: The word packet is mis-spelled on this line. It will say that they were un-able to deliver a package sent to you on such and such a date. It then asks you to print out the invoice copy attached.

DON'T TRY TO PRINT THIS. IT LAUNCHES THE VIRUS!

Pass this warning on to all your PC operators at work and home. This virus has caused millions of dollars in damage in the past few days.

Snopes confirms that it is real: visit the page:

I have a mp3 posted using a pair of the 310's on acoustic guitar. I got these on the last buy and didn't have my 1073's in time for the recording so I used my MPA gold w/ upgraded tubes for the session. If interesed the pre went into a Soundcraft Ghost and recorded to an Alesis HD24. I tried the 310 into the 1073 but I couldn't get an eq I really liked on an acoustic. Well I really like the top end of the eq. I'm just not loving the low end of the eq yet. Anyway this is a good friend of mine playing Good King Wenecslaus.

BTW I hope no one minds I posted this here and not in the mp3 clinic. I did this because it concerns group buy equipment. I also have some clips using the 310's on flute if anyone wants to hear.

Nicely done, Zbert! What guitar was he playing? Close miced? Positions? Thanks.

Paul:D

Oh yeah, I have a 310 coming.

NICE!

Very Kottke-ian !!! And seasonal. Very well played!

That's it, I'm selling all my guitars!

:D

My friend has been playing guitar for many years. I'll pass the complments. I will find out what guitar he used. I know he borrowed it for this song. And believe me this guy has a about six high end acoustic guitars. As for micing I placed each mic about 8 to 12 inches back from the guitar with one mic pointing at the 12th fret area and one at the body past the sound hole.
