An inside pic of the pres would be nice .............anyone
may help us plan the mods and stay cool while we wait our turn

OK. This is for the PSW guys if someone could cross post it for me. Even after 48 hours, I still haven't received my confirmation email that will allow me to post over there. Their CP says I will receive it "in a few minutes". :D :D

Re: Rack rails, ACMP's, etc.

I can assure you that user error is not involved. Like I said, I've racked probably hundreds of pieces of gear over the last 2 decades and something is weird here. I have over 200 spaces of racks in my studio that are currently filled with no issues. The ONE thing that I don't normally do is use metal prefab rack rails though, (I use hardwood prefab rails - and as a side note, they are pre-drilled so that you CANNOT mount a unit half way inbetween like you can with a metal rail) so I'm open to the fact that I'M doing something stupid here......but I don't think so.

Mounting more than 3 of the ACMP's next to each other is impossible. At least in the TWO commercial racks that I purchased. Both racks were manufactured for the music/audio industries and have metal rails. So it goes to say that if others have racks manufactured for music/audio purposes, SOME of them may have problems as well.

It may be the height of the ACMP, it may be the mounting hole spacing in the ACMP's, it may be that BOTH my racks have the wrong type of rails in them, but SOMETHING is going on that NON-STANDARD.

Why would an 8 space rack not be able to fit 6 acmp's and 2 blank panels?? Even with the blank panels not screwed in?? I couldn't even WEDGE them in between. I'm going to post up a pic of them mounted in rack when i can get my hands on my camera.

It seems that most of the chatter about this is over on the PSW board, so if someone could cross post this for me it would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know how I can actually get PSW to respond and send me a confirmation email so I can post over there??

Thx.

bp

Side note - you guys are going to LOVE your pre's!!! Did I happen to mention that they are HEAVY!!!! :D :D

Probably a silly question but...they don't have feet or prominent screws on the base do they?

Barks

The ACMP faceplates are identical to my TC Helicon single sp pieces. Do you have any other 3 single space pieces together?

As Promised........

As promised,

pics for the pre's for those that can't wait and for those who think I don't know what a rack rail is.....:D:D:D If someone can bump this over to PSW I'm sure it will be appreciated.

Gotta love em. A thing of beauty!!!! (Note: The only way I can move these guys is on a dolly! Did I mention that they were heavy????)

So,

There you have it. I'm not concerned about the rack spacing issues, but I just thought you guys might like to know.

I'm a HAPPY camper right now. Can't wait til next week when I'll be tracking drums thru this rig!!!!!!

Cheers,

bp

PS - anyone have a clue why I haven't received a confirmation registration email from PSW after 2 days?????

Yes, up to probably 12+ pieces racked right on top of each other with no problem. Mostly in hardwood prefab rails, but some in metal rails as well. Combo's of 1 & 2 space pieces mostly. With occasional blanks thrown in for good measure.

PS - Chance - in the pics above, the top pre's are cheated all the way up and the bottom pre's all the way down and I still can't wedge a blank panel in-between them without a hammer and the fear of scratching the pre's.

I can't seem to be able to move Bills post to PSW I'm sure they would be very interested. Anyone?

I am curious as to what happens if you try to rack three other known pieces in the exact spaces you tried to rack these originally. The head scratcher is that Chance has measured and all seems right with the world.....

Sure are some purty pictures. I am envious down here in Texas.

drBill, you should hit up "T" in TnC and see what is the issue at PSW. He is a big dog over there isn't he??

I threw a picture of it over there for ya FYI.

As much fun as that would be, it ain't gonna happen....:D:D Those babies are in there and they're going to STAY there. Too busy to play musical chairs with my racks.

And thanks! They are purty. BTW, you can't really see it well, but I like the colored LED switches that change color when you depress them. Very nice in a dim envrionment!

I totally understand. The lit buttons are a nice surprise...I hope to be loud and lit in a dim environment soon too.

I've had that problem with a lot of gear lately. I almost wonder if the standard has changed by a millimeter or something. Either that or all the faceplate manufacturers are universally screwing things up. I first ran into it when I racked a pair of MOTU 8Pre interfaces....

The only solution I've found that works fairly consistently is loosening everything in the rack, then putting everything in place, then tightening everything down at once. YMMV.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I've done it many times. Loosen everything, shoehorn it in and re-tighten. This is beyond that. When I put all 6 units on top of each other the top holes on the top unit would not line up. The screw holes were barely visable. Putting it almost 1/8" off. No way to line it up. Again, not complaining, just trying to suss it all out.
