is it just me or is that rain on our parade? [not trying to be rude]Who are you and what makes you think you know what pre's we've ordered?
He's Alan Hyatt, of PMI Audio (Joemeek, toft, studio projects).
He's just setting the record straight (as he sees it). We are all curious about the pres, and we won't really know until we collectively examine them. Alan is one of the FEW who has seen one in person. And he has spoken to the manufacturer in person about them. So I'd say he is a reliable resource of information.

It takes only a few seconds to figure out what pre's we all ordered.

I think maybe Chance and Alan have been told different things by the manufacturer. Or something lost in communication. I doubt anyone is trying to lie or rain on any parades. Don't forget the price we paid, it would take a lot to really rain on this parade.

I'm sure I'm one of many that would very much like to see pictures. Thanks for your insight.

I would also like photos, and appreciate any insight Alan can provide on the ACMPs. I think he's being helpful in setting/maintaining correct expectations. There is the potential to mythologize these pre's over the next X months and having a little guidance on what to expect is better than just rumor.

I can assure you the transformers are Chinese. We passed on these units some time ago, but I am sure you will do well with them.
Are you meaning the transformers when you say "units"? I thought the actual pres were designed by Chance and his buddy.

I don't know about any one else but in the end, I don't really care if the paint job is top notch. It's the sound I'm worried about.

As far as the transformers, well I had already planned on upgradingt those. We thought at one point that the xformers might not need upgrade. That would have been gravy. So know I'm back to where I was when I decided to buy them in the first place.

He's not raining on my parade at all. In fact he's offering something that we haven't had yet - some tangible information on these. Up to now, my decision has been made on Chance's knowledge and reputation. And I have no problem with that. Chance proves to us everyday that his knowledge, reputation and altruistic streak are among the finest.

But I still would like a look at the inside.

Remember here guys. $175 a channel. $175 a channel. We're most definitely getting a fantastic deal but we're not getting vintage neves no matter how optimistic you are.

Who Alan is has been answered, he probably knows more about dealing with the Chinese as well as who in China is making what, than virtually anyone else on these forums. Oh.....and he's also someone who I regard as a friend and a gentleman.

Perhaps I can clear up some of the confusion. These are not the same exact units that are on display. Our pieces have just begun the manufacturing process and have differences in the off the shelf pieces. There was supposed to be a confidential agreement with the manufacturer about these changes.

Ausrock is correct...Nothing in China is confidential. I have been dealing with 797 Audio for 10 years. John Ma is a good friend of mine, and I do a good amount of business with them.

I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade here. The unit Chance is buying from 797 Audio is designed by 797 Audio, sorry Chance, not designed by you, not even the mic amp is different. All Chance did is change the color and put the TNC name on it.

Now I do not want to make this a bash thread. I have all the e-mails from John MA on this unit. I have all the schematics as well. I told you we passed on it. Just know this is not designed by Chance or his tech. The LA2A Clone that 797 Audio designed my be sold by Chance as well, but it is also not designed by him.

If Chance designed it, then show me the schematics and prove me wrong. Then I will eat crow....This is a box sold by 797 Audio for $160.00 in lots of 1000 units. All Chinese components and transformers. With a few hundred in replacement transformers and some component changes, the unit can be decent.

Many of you know me, some don't. I am not attacking anyone here. I am just telling you guys what you are buying, and will post the photos. How you take this is up to you....

WOW
I never said "I designed these pieces" I also will not argue about all this on a public forum. My only intentions are to get a quality piece of gear to everyone at a great price. I only ask that everyone respect my wishes.

Alan, you may be very well respected, but many requests have been made in this thread to not name names, brands, or prices. Please respect those wishes, or the people involved will not be so kind as I've just been.

Thank you.

Craig

I know this has been asked many times, but I want an updated answer.

For those of us in the last group buy that got sagging ribbons, will we be getting replacements?

I just destroyed one of my ribbons today... :(

Since John MA is such a good friend, is he pleased that you posted private details about his clients/business arrangements with two different companies?

And don't interpret that question, as accepting your "truth" on the situation.
Chance doesn't actually owe it to you to post any proprietary schematics, or break any kind of confidence assumed between the manufacturer and himself, simply because you showed up here making claims in public.

And seriously, in your initial post, claiming the intention to help, while simultaneously inferring they weren't good enough for your standards, is just bad form, especially when you know several hundred people ordered them.
Truthful or not...

On the other hand, if these weren't designed from scratch with the help of his Tech, then obviously there is a problem here, as that was the indication from the beginning.

Somebody is playing with the facts, but it's not clear who yet.

It's like walking up to your buddy who is happy and proud to have just bought a brand new Toyota and telling him about all the problems that Toyota's have, how the design is not right, parts are crap, reliability is suspect, etc. It's not to help out your buddy, it's a personality fault in the person slamming the other product. If the Toyota really has all the problems, the owner will find out soon enough, but even if it does, the Toyota basher will still look like an a$$ for the rest of their relationship.

I'll never quite look at Alan, PMI, Toft, Studio Projects, etc. the same way again. Nice try Alan.....

It's interesting how some manufacturers end up being stand-up supporters of the community, while others end up looking like used car salesmen.

Though I have never met Alan in person, I have delt with him through e-mail concerning parts for a pair of Joe Meek mic's that I purchased. Every since my mic situation was resolved, by Alan personally sending me some replacement parts that he did not have to send, I have had nothing but good things to say about him and his company....even put him in my top 12 on Myspace :p .....

I must say it is a little disappointing to see how he handled this.....
