From what I understand, the 81 is an entirely different design.

These 3 pres have been designed from Chance's 1073s.

I think we're much more likely to get close to a 73/84 than an 81.

The TNC 81 seems like it's going to be a 73/84 with more eq. And no di/meter.

To clairify
The 73, 81, and 84, are based on the old (original) 73, 81, and 84.

Hey Randy,

I tried paying via CC and I get this funky error

msxml3.dll error '80070008'

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

/MUSICIANSWORKSHOP/UserConsole/CheckOut.asp, line 70

Is this referring to how much space is being allocated to your site on the host's server? Did I do something wrong? Let me know so that I get my order locked away.

Thanks a lot for getting this thing rolling!

- Mat

Hi Mat,

Yes, I've had reports of errors...several of them... I'm checking it out right now.. I've been away, out of the house tonight at church..etc., and haven't made any changes...etc., and these errors just started...

I'll let you know when I find the problem.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

Well what the hell do I know? :)

Cool.

I guess I gotta scrounge up another $350 for a pair of the 81s.

Damn it.

When you say "based" do you mean close enough that the TNC73 and TNC84 are class-A and the TNC81 is class A/B?

Bonus points if you give a non-vague answer like "the TNC81 is A/B" or "the TNC81 is class A"

If the picture that we've all seen is of the 81, or very close to what it's going to be, then apparently it looks like the "nordstrom" 73 style class A output. This of course is me repeating heresay from the prodigy pro post that's following this GB. If that's true then I'm inclined to go for the 81 because the eq is more versatile.

Server Issues/Errors...

I believe that I've found the root of all the server problems that I've been having with the mass emails in the past, as well as the recent errors we seen tonight on the payment page... As I said, I get these weird errors, WITHOUT EVER MAKING ANY CHANGES TO THE CODE...I wasn't even at home tonight when they began... They just start happening... Tonight, while talking to the hosting company about these errors, always the same error messages, they told me that if I would "UPGRADE" my account, that this would probably fix these errors... I asked, "What does this have to do with anything, I'm not doing anything special, just running standard ASP pages...?" To which they could never give me an answer to... BUT, here's the real issue: With this Group Buy, hosting, I've been using tons of bandwidth... Although my hosting plan is UNLIMITED bandwidth, I really didn't suspect that they thought I'd be using UNLIMITED... Now that I am actaully using so much, they are wanting more $$$ out of me to cover some of these bandwidth costs...

At least this is my opinion... And they can make these errors go away just in an instant of my complaining about them... I suspect they think that I'll just get tired of complaining about 1 day per week and ante' up with a more $$$ hosting plan... So far I've not caved in... as I've not went above or beyond the hosting plan that they sold, and I paid for...but they have went against their bargain by promising me less than 99% downtime...

Right now the payment page, as well as the other parts of the User Console seem to be working fine again....

We'll see how this pans out... :)

That's essentially why I'm going wth the 81.

I do know this: there's one person on this board who actually knows if the TNC81 is class A or class A/B. His name starts with a C, ends in an E and has the letters N, C, H, and A in a specific order between those two letters :D

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that my web host is trying to "extort" money from me now to upgrade my hosting account...

I went back through my notes, and my trouble ticket log at my web host, and I found something interesting: Everytime that we've ever had troubles with the server; sending mass emails..etc, it has been on Sundays, late PM, Eastern time... You can even go back through this thread and see the same pattern...

All night, the tech support people have been telling me to upgrade my account to "the next stage"...even though I'm not fully utilizing what my current plan is...and it's bogging down... Finally I asked the guy, "If I upgrade, will you guarantee that I'll never have these same errors again, using the same scripts?" He said, "Sure!". I asked, "Will you guarantee that in writing, stating that if I do, you must reimburse my yearly hosting fees X 3?" Of course, he said, "No!"... Even without the reimbursement, they wouldn't put any guarantee in writing...for anything, even an up-time percentage. They still claim that it isn't their fault... but it just seems strange to me, that code that has worked for a week, all of a sudden quit working, and started getting the "usual" errors... This coupled with it always happening on Sundays, late PM, Eastern, makes me suspicious... I mentioned this to them, and of course they said that it was purely coincidental...I just kinda grinned on that one...

As of now, I've not changed the code since we started the payment process on Friday...and it quit working earlier today (Sunday), then after I complained, (still no code changes) it magically started working again...but I'm still getting the usual error when I'm trying to send the mass emails...and I just got an email from them offering me a "premium email hosting plan @ the tune of $79.99 per month..." Yeah, all of these errors are coincidental just like they said...yeah, right...

Ah, it'll all come out in the wash I'm sure... It's 3:15am EDT, and I've gotta get some sleep...gotta long, busy day ahead as soon as it gets daylight...

Go here: This will catch you up quite quicky... This is how to register for the group buy...how to manage your products...etc. Of course the actual look of the registration/User Console have changed recently and differ from the pictures in the above link, it all still works the same...

If you have any questions, post them here and we'll answer them.

Greetings, Randy et. al.

Much like dr. bill, I followed a trail of breadcrumbs over from gearslutz.com and registered on this forum. I'm in for the group buy; however, I tried to register last night and got an error message. I tried again this morning and got another error message stating:

The email address that you have provided is already registered for this particular group buy.

Which seems odd since my 1st attempt didn't seem completed. If you could PM me to let me know if my registration did or did not work, that would be massively appreciated.

Thanks so much.

I got the mass email this morning and I'm wondering what the "replacement lollypop capsules for the 310" is referring to. I must have missed something. I thought the 310 was a SD condenser. I'm ordering one. Thanks.

more like "alternative" LD capsules for the 310 -- not "replacements" in the sense of replacement ribbons.

I forgot to order another 310 and I already paid -- rats! I've got one, now, though.

Virtual/Online Check Group Buy Payment Processing

Do I have a volunteer who wants to be the first to make group buy payment using Online/Virtual Checks?

I'll only need a few... I want to go through it a few times with live transactions before I open it up to everybody...

If you want to be a "beta tester", let me know, and we'll do it via PM or email, either which is convenient for you.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

B - I think you're overthinking this a bit. Don't expect a BA or DPD for $175. If you do, you're going to be dissapointed.

What is a BA or DPD?
I hear ya. It's just that he's SO vague about most of the gear... But if you ask a question about SHIPPING or PAYMENT He's Johnny on the Spot...

When I read that these are recreations of the originals and a N* Tech says that the Prototype sounded great and on Par... Well, with what LITTLE I do know about the original 73/84/81, I did some research and found that they (the originals) needed to be properly adjusted and Biased from time to time. Makes me wonder if these Replicants we're buying will need the same.

I don't think I'll be disappointed... I just want some Colored Pres that sound good. Right now all my Pres are pretty neutral... Sytek, M-Audio and Soundcraft. I'm kinda thinking there won't be much difference between the 73/84 and 81 but can't hurt to ask.

B.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's vague because he had less than 24 hours to play with the pres, ever.

No one really knows about this gear, even Chance. He has said he had his tech give the specs to China, so no one really knows anything about this gear.

Hence, the cheap prices and long wait.

A BA 282 is the original card used in the old consoles. A DPD is the 1073 (sans EQ) 1ru preamps available today.

The only time you should ever really need to adjust the bias is if something in the circuit was replaced, like the transistor, power supply components, etc.

I do hope there is a trim pot in the ACM-Preamps. With proper biasing you'll get a couple more db's of gain, and (somewhat) equal clipping at the preamps extreme gain settings. And the transistor will run at the proper temperature.

try using password as the password. Same thing worked for me. It error'd out when I tried to register, and then said that email was already registered. Then I remembered Randy mentioning when you register the default pass is "password".

how much longer until the payment window closes???:confused::confused:

I had all my money ready around the original deadline but since then some things have come and I might have to wait another week and a half from now until i have all my funds straight again.

also, since the invoices are now available, if we add stuff now, will it start another order or just be added to our existing order?

You can edit, add or delete products, up until the time you pay. Once you pay, you cannot edit the products. However, make sure you pay before the deadline to be included in this Great Buy.
