Randy, 2 things...

1. Have you heard of this alternative to PayPal? http://www.merchantinc.com/

I found it a while back while checking out http://www.paypalsucks.com/ ... because as we all know PayPal Sucks. :D
I personally haven't had any problems but I do know some that have (not Good stories)... I don't have them linked to a Bank account though and never will. I just use PayPal to Pay for items on Ebay using my Credit Card. Anyway, I've been thinking of (for a Year) about trying out that Merchant Account for my personal Business and for selling items on Ebay. See what you think... I'd be interested in your opinion.

2. Registration Deadline

Will we be able to make changes to our order after tonight? I'm not quite finished w/ my Taxes and if I don't owe as much as I think I'll pick up a couple more Mics. So... Do we have until the Payment Deadline to make changes? 4-20-08. Or Today 4-13-08?

Thank You,
B.

Yes, I know about that alternative gateway to PayPal... Matter of fact, the upstream provider for this company, FirstData, I've worked extensively with/for over the past 8 years or so...

Yes, if your volume is high enough, your own merchant account is the way to go...otherwise you'll get eaten up by fees... they might tell you they're not there, but trust me, I've been in the bankcard industry long enough to know that they don't do ANYTHING for free... If you're serious about getting your own merchant account, contact me via PM or email and I'll discuss it with you further... With my contacts in that business, I can get good deals and also know which ones are honest and which one are scoundrels... You've gotta be careful when you are shopping for credit card processing... One might give you a quote, which seems like a lower rate, but in the end, you'll actually be paying more...

Yes, you can make changes to your order up until the deadline for payment, 4/20/2008...or the date that you make payment... once you make payment, of course you can't change your order...

Thanks!

That was the answer I was looking for... Just wanna make this process less painful the next time around...

To tell the truth, I don't care a whole lot for PayPal either... They get by with stuff on card transactions that other processors in the world could never...all with Visa/Mastercard's blessing too...

Another quick question: If I could get an alternate form of payment set up before the payment deadline, would this change your mind about staying in? Of course this would be for credit cards only, as it would take too much time to build something to process EChecks or ACH...

Thanks,

Randy

First,

Thanks again (a ton) for the incredible amount of work you are doing to help Chance out in this. You two seem to make a phenomenal team, and your efforts are more than appreciated.

Just popping in to say that I, too, would love an alternative method of payment than Paypal. That's not going to stop me from paying with Paypal for this GB...and I'm definitely in with more than a grand of stuff ordered. The kicker is that I would love to see a way of paying that would allow for a much lower "fee" level (for simply transmitting money). It really is just a vehicle for getting funds together for the order, and Paypal is making a killing here on funds that many of us would rather use to pay for shipping, tipping, and other things.

Again, no worries, and no criticisms here...thanks again for all your work.

Jay

When I was a kid, they had such a thing. I believe they called it a "check." But that was a long, long time ago and I'm not sure if such things exist anymore.

They do but we call them cheques :D. Virtually everything we have bought from the US in the last few years has been successfully paid for by either International Money Order, International Bank Cheque (both these are posted across) or Wire Transfer/Direct Deposit although I have used M'card on one or two occasions.

Randy,

Please check your PMs.

Thanks milz

Chance and Randy:

I done paid for my order and I just wanted to publicly join the convo and say a huge thanks. If this GB isn't exactly the kind of spirit that we need more of in this world, then I don't know what is. Maybe it just makes too much sense? But, anyway, I super grateful for your efforts and for doing this. Can't believe all the cool stuff coming my way in a few months!

Aussies and Brits are always looking for ways to saddle the rest of the world with their letter 'U' excess. I don't understand this love affair with the letter U. Unless they're mistaking 'U' for 'ewe' ...in that case, I understand ...I don't approve, but I understand. :D

Historically, there were originally three alternative spellings......check, checque and cheque, the Brits used common sense and chose to use "cheque" for monetary transactions and use "check" for it's other meanings to avoid confusion ;).

EWE..................for goodness sakes, it's the bloody New Zealanders who have a kinky sheep fetish. I prefer my sheep roasted on a plate :D

That's not what the New Zealanders say. ;)

(okay, that's the last sheep joke I'm making ...I promise)

Hey Randy,

Is there any reason why I can't go through to paypal to finish my order? When I hit the "Pay Now Using Paypal" button, it takes me to a paypal screen with this message

"This recipient is currently unable to receive money."

How can I make the payment and get around this?

Thanks Randy!

- Mat

Man, I just got back in from a drive into GA to pick up my wife... Let me check it out... I seriously doubt it is a problem with "our side" of things, probably something with PayPal...

In the meantime, here's some good reading: http://www.paypalsucks.com/

Hey man, NOBODY, will be late to make the payment deadline because of PayPal... I know the guy who runs the clock around here! :D

Remember though, at mid-night tonight ONLY ENDS registration... Everyone still has until 4/20/2008 - 11:59:59 PM EDT to pay for their products...

Rofl...

They certainly seem to have become obsolete!

However, as Randy has already mentioned, there are other ways of organizing large payments by large numbers of people using credit cards as a medium...vice a "service" as defined by PayPal.

This method rarely requires much in the way of fees at all...and the money is securely (and fully) sent to the recipient in such a way that the recipient is "sure" of payment as a result.

I, for one, would much rather spend the something like $35 on shipping rather than the process of just getting money to Randy/Chance.

Again, no complaints concerning those two fantastically helpful individuals...I'm just tired of paying the unnecessarily high Paypal fees, whether as a buyer or seller it seems that it is becoming more and more a factor of the simple act of sending/receiving money. Again, not trying to get on a bandstand here - just voicing my "druthers".

Carry on - cheers!

Read your emails guys :D.........sorry, it isn't funny but considering the games Ebay and Paypal are starting to play here in Oz, I just had to have a chuckle to myself.

Chance, Randy.........you guys are the best.

I was on the phone with Chance and he was on the phone with PayPal... They won't even discuss processing this with him...

During this, I was thinking: ausrock, just got his wish come true, there WILL be an alternative payment process... :D

Just stick with us guys... We'll get this thing back up and accepting payments again through another gateway... I'm 99% sure of the gateway that we'll be using (I won't mention it right now, just in-case I should change my mind), so I'm starting writing the code to interface with it right now... Usually it takes about 4 days to get a merchant account set up and running with gateway access... I'm pretty sure that I can "pull some strings" and hopefully get us back up accepting payments within 2 days...hopefully.

Thanks for everyone's patience through this.

WOW!!

That's great news for a lot of guys I'm sure.
Does that mean we get an extension on payment deadline? If so I'll be able to up my order :p

Isn't it funny how things always work out ( I'm not a religious guy, but I believe I live a charmed/blessed life ). Yesterday morning I was checking out guitar straps on ebay, about 2 hours later I went to a local shopping centre to grab a couple of things and on my way out laying on the ground in front of me was a guitar strap - funny thing is this mall doesn't even have a music shop in it!
