Well unfortunately, I've had to remain out of this GB due to the fact that.......... 1) Even more than before, I now refuse to use Paypal (more about that further on) and 2) although I could have imposed upon other Aust., GB participants, I felt it may not be fair to them, especially if the inclusion of items I was interested in put their total costs over the Aust., import duty limits.

Ebay Australia have recently announced that as of June this year, the only acceptable methods of payment will be either Paypal or "pay on pick up"..........cheques, money orders, COD, etc., etc., will not be acceptable forms of payment for Ebay auctions in Aust., (watch out you o/seas guys, it may be heading your way)............by doing this, Ebay, as "owners" of Paypal, are looking to further increase their already burgeoning profits to the detriment of the sellers and buyers that have placed them in the position they are currently in.

Chance, it's too late for the current GB, but I would urge you to consider alternative methods of payment should there be future GBs.

Cheers to all and enjoy your new gear, I just regret that on principle I could not participate.

I enertained the idea of using an alternative gateway for payment some time back, but never got any feedback from anyone so I dropped it...

99% of the programming/development work that I've done over the past 10 years has been in the payment processing industry...I've even developed several payment gateways myself... I can get good pricing on credit card transactions... With the pricing that I can get, I could have saved about 1/3 of what will be paid out by using PayPal this time...processing fees will be, if no more than 10% of those who have chosen products, go through checkout, approx. $7500.00 USD for this group buy... cut 1/3 off that: $4950.00...

Yeah, I knew this early on, but never got any feedback... Maybe next time we'll use a different gateway... BTW, are you totally opposed to using credit cards as payment or just refusing to use PayPal for transactions?

Randy,

If I know who I'm dealing with C/cards aren't a problem, I just had a couple of nasty twitches with Paypal way, way back and from then on decided not to use it.

This latest news from Ebay apparently just skirts the Aust., laws covering restrictive trade practices so at this stage they can get away with it but based on the comments on local forums, they're likely to lose business to other locally based auction sites that in the past haven't been able to compete.

Cheers,

ChrisO

perhaps this has been posted before... i know i'm late :)

do the PSU's of the tube-microphones also have possible switching between 110V and 230V?

cheers,
flo

Flo, I'm pretty sure they do. The ones from the last buy (which included the 6802 and the 310, both of which have dedicated power supplies) were switchable from 110 to 220. So I'd bet the newer ones will, too--like the 1200.

Ok.. I see... So, if there was an alternate gateway to process payment, you'd probably still be in...correct?

Thanks for your input, but sorry for your decision not to stay in... I'm just listening to any complaints, thoughts, suggestions that anyone has, and making notes on it, so we can make this process better the next time around...

thanks for the info.

another question concerning shipping.
is it possible to order and pay with my account but combine shipping with some austrian or german folks later on? otherwise i'd search for some order- and shipping partner now.

cheers,
flo

All paid up. Cool to see my part of the buy added to the totals--it was instantaneous. I'd do it more, if I could afford it, just to watch the numbers change (I was lucky number 10).

Thanks Chance, and Randy. Nice system you've worked out for us all.

Yes mate, there's a very good chance that I'd have "been in" if there were options other than Paypal.

That was the answer I was looking for... Just wanna make this process less painful the next time around...

To tell the truth, I don't care a whole lot for PayPal either... They get by with stuff on card transactions that other processors in the world could never...all with Visa/Mastercard's blessing too...

Another quick question: If I could get an alternate form of payment set up before the payment deadline, would this change your mind about staying in? Of course this would be for credit cards only, as it would take too much time to build something to process EChecks or ACH...

Thanks,

Randy

Randy - I just submitted payment, but my order details weren't included in the paypal transaction. It was just listed as "TnC Group buy" blah blah. Rather than :Mic PreAmp - Rackmount #3 - ACMP-73 Quantity 2: or whatever. Just pointing this out as I hope it doesn't make things confusing for someone down the road.

Randy,

The possibility is appreciated but I would have to check with The Minister of Finances (the wife) as to what's gone on to our cards recently (studio and house renovation type expenses). It's 2.30am here (I've stayed up to watch the MotoGP), so probably wouldn't have a definite answer for a few hours at the earliest..........watch this space for an answer.

Hey Randy/Chance,

I've ordered 2 x 1081's 'type' mic pres and want to ask a quick question RE shipping.

I'm based in South Africa but have a couple friends Stateside and I'll be over there next month (yeah I know, no chance of them being ready by then!) and in order to save the excessively high postage via FedEx to SA would it be possible to ship them to mate in Atlanta?

If so how do I go about that as my PayPal address will obviously reflect my South African address. If I put his address in the User Panel will the shipping invoice, when ready, be made out with those details?

Also if I'm not mistaken shipping payment will only be due once Chance gets the units?

Thanks in advance and for all the effort you guys have put into this GB!

Cheers

Matt

Yes. Since we aren't using a shopping cart for this, I'm only passing the total amount (Grand Total) over to PayPal for processing... There's no way to itemize it from PayPal unless you use their cart...which I hate, or a compatible PayPal cart... The invoice in the User Console should match the "Amount Paid" statement you received back from PayPal though...Does it? If this didn't match, that would indicate a problem...

AND, after payment, you can still log back into the User Console and view/print your invoice from there... Of course this time, since you've already paid, there won't be the PayPal button there to pay, but rather a "PAID STAMP" like this one below:

Thanks!

Yes, you can... REMEMBER, this payment was ONLY for the payment for products. The payment for shipping has not been invoiced yet...

The question that you asked, is why that I built the "PERSONAL Shipping Info" section at the bottom of the main page of the User Console... This is where you enter your shipping address information...the place you'd like your products to be shipped... Just enter the address that you'd like to have them shipped in these fields, and that's where they'll go... Of course, if someone don't enter their shipping info in the User Console, Chance will have to manually look up their PayPal address and it will be shipped there...

I'll say this for everyone: Please, please, enter your shipping info in the User Console... When the time comes for shipments to go out, this will expedite this process a great deal!

Thanks in advance and for all the effort you guys have put into this GB!

Cheers

Matt

You're very welcome!

Hummm... I'm not really sure... That's something that I'd have to ask Chance about... If you want to delay payment a while, I'll ask him when I talk to him tonight, and if needed, I'll add something to the checkout process to specify which color... Really, I'm just not sure on this one...

Thanks for the compliments on my tractor!

Thanks!
