Hey Chance,

What is the deal with that 6802 thingie? What's the price? Any pics?
It looks like it has a potential for mods. If the price is right I could get one or two and then post what could be done with those.

Email me to:

ribbonmic(at)comcast(dot)net

Best, Mark

Hey Marik - I have one I could send you to experiment on - but I'd need to have it back when you're done. :D

OK, here is the deal, if someone is interested. I'd like to check the new PK47 capsule and compare it to my original PVC M7.
I'll mod the mic for free for the first taker, who wants me to instal the PK47. You pay shipping and parts, though.
It should be your understanding though, that first, I will check the capsule in my own mic, which sound I know well.

If the deal sounds fair, PM me.

Best, M

OK, we have the taker. If for some reason it won't go through I will let you know.

A couple of samples of the ACM-310

I recorded some live bluegrass last weekend, and it provided me the chance to put my ACM-310s to work. Frankly, I think they sounded great, and so did the FOH guy. I mixed a short sample of the recording:

The ACM-310s are used on the dobro and the fiddle. The recordings were mixed flat - the only EQ that was used was some low frequency roll-off below the fundamentals of the instruments. There was no compression used on the individual channels, though there is some slight compression applied to the overall two channel recording.

I think the fiddle and dobro hold up very well here without any EQ applied, but see what you all think.

Sounds *very* good to me. Great song and great playing, too! The highs are strong and present throughout, without brassiness or harshness (is that "assertive", rather than "aggressive"?) and that tends to anchor the tracks nicely in the mix for me. Regrettably, I only ordered one 310, but I've used it on uke and acoustic guitar so far with great results.

actually, (been meaning to mention this) the 2 acm310's i have sound different, one being brighter and hotter then the other
i've isolated the difference to the mic it's self, i wonder if maybe there are different tubes in them or something?

havn't had a chance to look (since one of them is currently on loan)

on the other end, i ordered a lot of ribbons, and they were all good.

Just curious, but has anyone opened up a 310 ?

I have--but only in a cursory manor. I didn't dig too deep--I'd just never seen anything that narrow contain a tube and I wanted to check it out. I can do it again and shoot some pics if you're interested.

I've already seen the insides, but thought it might be of interest to others.

UPDATE
...The bad side is the ES-24 shock mount is temporarly unavailable. They said that they will bring the shock mounts to the NAMM show in January. I will cover the shipping out to everyone that has them ordered.

I follow this thread but I may have missed something... Did they bring the ES-24 to NAMM and are we going to get them anytime soon? Maybe they'll be sent w/ the Ribbon material? That is the situation? Right? The Manufactures agreed to giving Chance some new Ribbon material... not the whole motor assembly? I'm somewhat close to tensioning the Slack Ribbon myself... just don't want to F>U> the mic.

Thanks,
B.

Also... I 'm Tottaly digging the 310 and Nice job Gilliand. What's the best way to post Clips? I could post a clip of the 310 compared to a Peluso CEMC6 on a pretty decent acoustic guitar track.

Thanks. I just borrowed a bit of the web space that my provider gives me for free. I don't get much, but it's enough to post a short clip or two.

I sent one to Michael Joly (along with another mic for him to mod). He had expressed some interest in looking at its innards. I bet he has it on his desk right now!!:D

I'm going to try to upload the schematic.

I can't up load. If someone sends me an E-mail "SCHEMATIC" and I will reply with the jpg (you know the drill LOL)

Here it is, chance. Unfortunately, the resolution sucks. Did they send you a larger file that you resized, or is this what they sent? Is this the 6802, with the only difference being the 310 dropped R4 and R8?

Anyway, thanks for getting this. We can figure out the component parameters from the actual mics.

Uh, $h*t. It seems like they use a double sided capsule for cardioid only  Such a waste.
With a couple additional parts at least they could through in an omni pattern
What bulb they use there?
