My buddy who I went in on mics with has completed two projects with these mics:

First, a DIY shockmount for the mountless 583... yes, it's an idea borrowed from other forums, we know it's not original, but this is just an illustration of how it all comes together, and how to get it done very cheaply:

Second, Lundahl transformer sway in the ACM4:

So, how does the ACM4 sound after the transformer swap?

I think it might be that tube ribbon with the convex grill on one side and a flat grill on the other. There's a mic on Cascade's website that looks the same... maybe all the hype around the Fathead and the fact that the same mics appearing under other brand names are making Cascade want to keep some of the designs to themselves.

From Cascade's web site:

Cascade Microphones has no affiliation with The ALCTRON ELECTRONICS CO.

So, how does the ACM4 sound after the transformer swap?
Mor high end, no loss of low end. For lack of a better way to put it, we both thought it sounded "more expensive..." overall the frequencies that were there just sounded better. We tested on acoustic nylon string and steel string. Bottom end was still all there, but the top end was brighter and cleaner.

One note on the transformer swap--from what we could tell, the wires on the Lundahl were reversed, so if you matched the Lundahl white wire to the stock white wire, and the Lundahl black to the red, then the big wires (that connect below the ribbon) need to be swapped (in relation to the old transformer).

The big surprise was the ACM-3... it sounded better on the acoustic guitar then either the stock or Lundahl ACM4. A little less output, but better overall sound.

From Cascade's web site:

Then why do all of their mics look exactly like all the others? :D

Unless they get direct from China... or is the Alctron company the Chinese manufacturer? Sorry - I haven't read the last 1,427 pages of threads, so I'm not very up to speed :D

From Cascade's web site:

Alctron stopped selling to me after the first group buy because I exposed some of their clients. I guess that wasn't a good thing on my part, But I've since learned much. All of the GB vets here might remember when Nady, Cascade, Apex, Shinybox, etc demanded I remove the pictures on this forum. I couldn't do it quickly enough, and Alctron stopped selling to me. They wouldn't even sell to me at the NAMM show, but was selling to everyone else They always bring a ton of mics to NAMM to sell at inflated prices. They say it's freight charge. The truth is they send those mics way ahead of time for the show by ship which is dirt cheap. I wonder if they pay duty, it being for a trade show and all. LOL

My mistake - I was thinking these mics were coming from them. Perhaps other companies have since switched to other Chinese manufacturers since then as well. Or perhaps Alctron started a sister "company" with a different name. :)

Someone on another forum that has a topic that has been going on for a long long time gave me this idea. He created a "stickey" with an index for his long topic. Can that be done here?

I sent a lot of requests out as well as a lot of reminders.

I have a large order going out today and a lot of PP requests have not been answered. Check your E-mail! If pymt is recieved before noon (pacific time) they will ship today. I still have many requests that I sent a long time ago (along with many reminders) that have not been answered.
I am hoping to fill the last orders next week. (then what am I going to do? LOL)

Refund those who haven't paid and put their mics on eBay.

Or tell people like me what mics are left over so we have an option to purchase.

Or you could offer them here. I'd buy a bunch in a heartbeat, BaBump, paypal, sold.:D:D:D

I think I will wait. Some might have problems or are out of communication. Maybe the holiday season might be the reason. Our good friend "quiktune" reciently recieved his order from the first GB. I'll just put them on the shelf. There all labeled and ready to ship.

Chance, you might want to post a list of non-responders just in case they are having e-mail or spam trap issues. It's possible some of them don't know that you've made a payment request. I've found e-mail to be a somewhat less reliable means of communication than I initially believed it to be. In my law practice we sometimes use fax for communications where we have concerns about privacy or want to assure that a communication has been received (because of the confirmation feature).

I just cringe every time this subject comes up, wondering if the shipping request I'm waiting for actually came long ago. Here's what I just did -- I went to paypal and did a search for "Money Requests" since May, and the only one with your name, Chance, was the one in May for the original payment. There are only a few others, and they're all unrelated.

The shipping request (or "bill") would come in the same way, and from the same place, as the original payment request, right?

yea - it'll be obvious when the request is there

after i got the e-mail requesting payment, i logged on to paypal, and the fund request is right there on the page, plain as day

well, my ACM-3 arrived today...of course fedex was nice enough to not even knock when they delivered it, so it sat on my doorstep for almost 12 hrs.

after opening it up, i instantly plugged it in and tried the MJ rocking trick to see if the ribbon was slack - i didn't hear any clanking around, but opened it up anyways to check...and you betcha, the ribbon in mine is slack as well. for a minute there i thought maybe i was 1 of the lucky few, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

:D [edit-- the little guy doing backflips was a little distracting] :D

Got my shipping request and paid it! Thanks again, Chance.

Figures my mail server would be backed up when it finally came -- I was clearing out the queue this morning, and out jumped the email, resulting in a 16 hour turnaround, rather than the 16 second turnaround that I had planned.

just a fyi that i've been meaning to post for like weeks now (another thread reminded me of it)

the fat head looking ribbon (forget the numbers already) the "front" is out of phase.

no biggy, flip the mic or the phase just keep an eye out for it.
