chance: is there going to be a future group buy?:D or you are just messing with our feelings?

Well,, as long as no one complains about the long time consuming process. It's when (and I haven't this GB) I get numerous complaints, is what discourages me. I've made a couple costly errors this time like sending the wrong order to Austrailia, and forgetting to put some shock mounts in etc. I think after everyone gets their order, it would be narrowed down to fewer types of mics. Right now as I see it, the ACM-310, and the ACM-583 are the clear winners with the ACM-6802 running a close third. If I could get orders on the 310 or 6802 in groups of 4, all I would have to do is slap a label on the box and ship. No calculating!

Chance,

Is it possible that you would have "left overs" after all orders have been despatched......specifically, ACM-1, ACM-2 or ACM-4 ribbons? If so, put me near the top of the "extras" list and we'll take it from there :)

The only other alternative is to find out who the Australian buyers are and hope one of them has mics they want to dispose of, and I doubt there's much chance of that.

Did you have any luck finding a way to outsource the last leg of shipping for next time? It seems like this would save a ton of trouble on your part and could shave a month or two off the whole experience.

And, yes, out Behringering Uli himself is masterful.

Thanks for all your efforts, looking forward to playing with these mics when they arrive.

I would note that there are four ribbons, and that except the ACM-1 (which gives no ribbon thickness), they are basically indistinguishable in specifications. I rather suspect that most people threw a dart on those, so you can almost consider those to be a single equivalence group for counting purposes. Ditto for the LDCs, so the majority picked the first one on the page. :D

What I'd like to see prior to any future group buys would be a mic shootout between similar models. Pick the best ribbon and include that. Pick the best of the FET LDCs and include that. Include the 6802 (tube LDC) and the 510 (tube SDC). Ditch all the FET SDCs since they're pretty close to what comparable mics sell for now anyway. Bundle them all with a shock mount automatically. If you do that, you've reduced the number of models by more than a factor of six. :)

Just my $0.02.

Sounds like a good $0.02. Just keep us poor third world countries in mind :) And don't go choosing the most expensive model of each type. :P

I picked the 583 over all the other FET's because of the polar pattern options - ditto the 6802 over the 6801. I suspect this was the reason most chose them. The 310 because it's a tube SDC. But I agree, ditch the rest of the condenser mics.

But I've got to have some of these:

Strike a light!

Chance's copy from the other forum:

Pic 1: "It looks like your every day mic from China. but it's an XY config'd with (2) 22,5mm capsules.and 2 independent FET balanced output transformers."
(I inserted the extra "under the hood" view for ease of viewing...)

Pic 2: "This ribbon (resembles the 77 a tad) is variable polar pattern with a mechanical valve that slides over behind the ribbon. On the FET power amp, there is a pot to vari the voltage to the mic"

Pic 3: "I know, this looks crude like a WW2 German grenade it's a ribbon and uses a 12AX7 more details later"

Pic 4: "And this is a pregnant German grenade. Also a ribbon. A double ribbon, and phantom powered.the two ribbons are mounted in close proximity in vertical axis 90 degrees horizontally. It has two seperate FET"

Hope that does the trick...

Are these going to be available as a group buy or is this just a dangling carrot designed to keep me itching? :D:D

I'm with the crazy doctor on this one. The multi-pattern option was definitely the reason I chose those two LDCs over the others.

Got my tube and two ribbons yesterday and all I can say is WOW! Sweet deal, thanks chance! The ribbons are crystal clear and the tube has just the right peak in the high end to make it airy without being brittle. I'm in the next buy and will gladly help in any way I can.

Boy, I'm sure feeling left out. Haven't even gotten a paypal request yet.

Great idea! This way folks new to buying mics have the benfit of your ears beforehand as well.

I wasn't in the group buy, but if I was, I would probably have chosen the multi-pattern ones, especially for only 15 more bucks.

Just curious, how many mics did you order in the end?

i ordered 7 mics 4 ribbons, two 583s and 1 6802t. This was a combined order with my brother, who got one of the ribbons and the two 583s.

Did anyone here get an ACM-1 ribbon (looks very retro)? I have one coming, haven't gotten it yet (tomorrow or next day!). Just curious what you think of it, don't think I've seen a discussion of that model.
