Has anyone taken apart their ACM-3 (the Royer look-a-like)?

I'm wondering if the motor uses a ribbon offset toward the front of the mic (like Royer) or towards the back of the mic (like the Nady RSM-3).

Michael,

I am going to send you another Ok***a mk319 to mod. I would be happy to send you one of these ribbon mics, not for modification, but so you can take a look at its innards.

Cool. I'll pick up the shipping both ways for both mics for the opportunity to have a look inside that ribbon mic.

i could probably send my ACM-3 out to you for a peek whenever it shows up

i've been waiting long enough as it is, so it won't matter much if it's out for a week or so

i'm really interested in the hrm-9, i could only find one post about it though. i'd love to buy one whenever another one of these things rolls around.

did some more testing. ACM-583 vs. Gefell M300 and Gefell UM70.

First we did 583 vs m300. The 583 won hands down. much more clarity and presence. made the m300 sound muddy. i was surprised by this conclusion...

then we figured we'd better put a LDC up against a LDC so we grabbed the UM70 and it was kind of apples and oranges. the 583 was definitely a crisper, more detailed sound, but the UM70 had some more midrange body that i like to have to work with. my partner in crime here liked the crisp high end detail of the 583 better.

that said, anyone have an extra 583 they'd like to get rid of?

Just curious, but where did you see a post on the hrm-9 ? I used the search funtion, but only found this post

Chance,
I know you are busy with all the shipping, but i was wondering if you would mind giving a quick update on progress so far, just to reassure those of us patiently waiting in the sidelines (drooling) for our mics.

Thanks!
Daav

I believe an apology is in order here. There were several orders for the ACM-4 in different colors. I posted sometime ago that there were not enough orders to justify manufacturing the colored ones and I was informed to order only black or white (silver) since that is what most of you ordered anyway. I opened 4 cartons, each with 12 ACM-4's in them, took each wooden box out and opened it and they were all white. Those 4 cartons have already been shipped. This past weekend, someone drove down to pick up their order, so I opened another box of 12 ACM-4's. When we opened the box and took out his mics, we took it out of its box and discovered it was "BLACK". There was no way I could have opened and examined every mic. I assumed they were all "white". I hope everyone understands.

I ordered one white one, but either color is fine with me, if switching makes things easier for you -- my pp address starts with 'sgpp.'

I was one of the persons who ordered blue. Since I couldn't get that anyway
I really don't care which color I get now. My biggest worry about the mic is that it won't sound right with my vocalist.

PS: for those planning to mod their ribbon I just noticed that Edcor has a ribbon mic transformer now.

I cannot find any info about how it sounds anywhere though.

As far as mics go, they are about half gone. Remember quite a few have ordered several large boxes (50 pounds each) of mics, which take longer to process.

Paraphrasing Deng Xiao Ping, it doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice.

I just got a PM from Fed EX and they tried to deliver a 29 lb package to Chagrin Falls OH but they couldn't

Jim G. Better call Fed EX before they ship back to me

Cool. As soon as I get the ribbon mics, I'll place the order for the mod and ship both out to you.

I just got some more "non deliveries"

1. Crazy Hair production purchase NY

2. Jim Gilliland Chagrin Falls

3. Steve D' Onofrio Montrose NY

All report that customer was not available OR wrong address

THEY WILL MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO DELIVER AGAIN TOMORROW.
If one of these is you, better call Fed ex ASAP. Everything was shipped to the address that was supplied to me

Chance,

Are you requiring a signature at delivery? Just wondering about the cause of non-deliveries. I certainly can't guarantee that I'll be around when the driver eventually shows.

Thanks

i don't even remember what address i have on file for my order! i've moved since then...but i either put my business address...or my previous address (which is OK because my uncle still lives there) or my mom's address. i guess i'll find out eventually haha
