Save your pennies over the next couple of months and you'll be able to get even MORE! LOL

Me, too. I got a Nigerian money offer the other day. Turned it down, though.
Amazing, I got one for you too!

Apparently a Mister Fuji Apl, his mistress, and their seven bastard children were killed on the Bgenjwe express road in July of 2001, leaving a sum of $23,000,000 in his bank account. Attempts were made to track down next of kin, and when they'd almost given up, a Ms Orange Apl was located in Zimbabwe. While she was on her way to claim the money early in 2003, her plane crashed in Cotonou, Benin, killing all on board.

Through other means, including embassy records and CIA investigations, her lineage has been traced to various relatives, including Strudel Apl, killed in a terrorist attack along the Boake Highway in the Congo, and Cider and Sauce Apl who died in the 9/11 fiasco.

They finally have decided that you, Wormin Apl, are the sole surviving descendant, and wish to transfer that $23 mil to your bank account, which number they are anxiously awaiting.

I would certainly like to be of any help I can in this matter, so if you'll kindly PM me the number and password, I'll gladly forward it to them.

No need for thanks or reward - I'm just glad to be of service.

I like the looks of that first tube ribbon mic. I'm already looking forward to the next buy.

Cool! I'll make it easier for you. Just PayPal me.

OK first you have to differentiate the capsule buffer from the output stage. First let's talk about condensers. The capsule has GOT to be buffered by a FET or tube, no other choice there. Obviously a FET is much cheaper, they cost about $0.05 in large quantities, and they are happy with phantom power so you don't need an external power supply.

Next is the output stage. Typically the FET buffer is followed by a BJT pair which drives the output. The other choice is a transformer. It's the same for a tube, it still needs an output driver.

So I am still a bit confused on the FET deal. If you have two choices of tube or FET, why do some mics push the fact that they are FET (like the AT4047) where from what I gather, everything else they make is FET more or less too like the 4040, 4033, or 4050? Or is it more the fact it has a transformer on the output that matters in that particular case? And how much does the electronics effect the sound of the mic versus the capsule?

Because with the 4047, they want you to think of the U47, which was originally tube before the FET version came out. So Neumann had to specify FET to distinguish it from the tube. AT just wants you to think "hey this mic is like a U47 FET".

I think the answer to that question is yes ;), but if you press me, the sound of the capsule is more important. I mean you can look at a lot of microphones with very similar circuits, but very different capsules, and they sound a lot different than they would if the situation were reversed. Take for example the Dorsey mod based on the Schoeps circuit; designed for a small-diaphragm capsule but used on large diaphragm condensers. Does it make an MXL sound like a measurement mic?

So I've got acces to B&K instrumentation mics. I think they're free field to use in our hemi chamber. But I think random incendent would be correct for checking out the studio.

Does "got access to" mean "allowed to send to friends for their personal use" :D

No, it's more like I can smuggle them out on the way to another facility along with an LMS Test.Xpress dynamic signal analysis system...

Got it, ad copy confusing the issue. This is all very informative. Thanks a ton!

Actually I was hoping for your hint about the group preamp buy
