At $50 + $60 s/h to Chance + ? tariffs + shipping to wherever you live, is this going to be cheaper than just buying a rebadged mic?

I might be interested. A few questions:

1. Do you have a price for the 5G? (Probably same as 5S, but you didn't say.)
2. On the HST-11A, could you inquire whether the tube is socketed?
3. Do they sell the model that the Nady RSM-2 is based on? I'd love to have a second one, but it isn't any of these models. It's similar to the 8B, but it isn't pinched flat at the top. Looks like a giant Tylenol, really.

Find out the final details about:

1. Minimum quantity required.
2. Bulk shipping costs.
3. Typical DOA rate. (This is often where you get screwed, since you can be assured that they won't all work, and return shipping in small quantities would be prohibitively expensive, since you'd end up paying three overseas shipping fees and three tariffs instead of one.)

BTW, the Schedule B import ID is 8518.10.80 (suffix 30). You can find tariff info at http://hotdocs.usitc.gov/docs/tata/hts/bychapter/0510/0510c85.pdf, and an explanation of what this means at http://hotdocs.usitc.gov/docs/tata/hts/bychapter/0510/0510gn.pdf.

Looks like 4.5% import tariff. I seem to recall there being some additional base fee, but it isn't much, I don't think. And then if you don't handle picking it up and bringing it through customs yourself, you would need to pay someone to do that (I forget the term). This might be handled for you if you ship with certain carriers, not sure.

I'd be interested in a pair of HRM10's if the shipping comes down. Is there a discount on shipping (for the individual buyer) for multiple mic orders?

It all depends on how much the price comes down.. but I might be interested.

Exactly. There are rebadged cheap ribbon mics right now that sell here at home for less. I'm not seeing the big advantage to buying these same mics semi direct.

I applaud Chance's initiative. But I went through the Tape Op deal, or should I say ordeal? Almost 6 months start to finish and I'm not sure I would do it again.

The final landed price has a way of creeping far above the China-direct per piece quote. The best part about it for me was I got the headbasket shape I wanted - after alot of persuasion and endless discussion.

I think Shinybox is coming out with a new mic or mics. His prices delivered to your door are very attractive plus he supports what he sells. I'm going to wait and see what he comes out with next.

First off let me be clear. I don't, and have no desire to get into the Microphone business.

About 4 years ago I found some mics that looked good from 797 audio the same people that make Studio Projects mics. I wanted to get 2 of them for my studio. Before making the order, I took pictures to several studios here in LA. I had enough orders to get 20 mics. I ordered the mics, transfered the funds, and 10 days later, I was notified to come to customs port of LA to inspect the goods. I think the duty on the 20 mics was $80.00. Now-a-days with Pay pal that part should be even easier.
The bottom line is, I like microphones. It's one of the few things that are needed weather you are analog or all digital. Some of these mics will probably have a sound of their own which is good. I have a gut feeling that I will use them for certain applications. Even now I use $6000.00 C-12 and in the same project I will use a cheap Radio Shak spesh just for its charactor
I am going to get these mics either way. My only advantage is the same as anyone else here. it is that there is a savings in numbers.
I have posted this in several forums, and now my E-mail box is flooded. What I am trying to do is to get some type of code, where individually we can order, give this code and get this group buy pricing. I'll keep updated postings here

I'd be interested in a couple of the HRM-10's if all of this comes together...

Count me in if the price drops and they can be shipped to Europe. I'm thinking about the Royer lookalike right now.

I just got a reply and as it turns out all of the gear for the NAMM show is already in route to Anaheim via sea. Had he known of the interest in mics, he would have included them. He also stated that he can't take them with him when he flys to the NAMM show because of the intense magnetisim of the ribbon mics. I have not recieved word yet if we can individually order and still recieve group discount.

Does this mean this isn't happening then? Are no ribbon mics allowed on planes? or is it just large quantities of them?

No, that just means that they can't bring any as "carry-on" luggage. There is no problem shipping.
