You're probably right Jim. Perhaps I'm venting. So many of you guys have put your trust and faith in me and I don't want to let anyone down.

okay, enough about stupid paypal already...
:D

so, it's probably kind of late in the game for this kind of question, but can someone give me a hint as to what the 6802 is cloned from?
i can't for the life of me figure it out.....

can somebody help me out here?

And we're not going to either... I'm trying to get a merchant account set up for us now...

Chance, like someone stated earlier, what PayPal did has absolutely on reflection on you or your honesty... They "theoretically" based their decision on the properites of the transactions, not your credentials...

That being said though, I do believe by what I heard on the phone last night, just from a few of the comments that were made, that someone had complained to PayPal... They knew too, too much of how this particular GB was working... BUT DIDN'T MENTION WHERE THE SITE(S) WERE HOSTED..ETC., so I know that they hadn't researched it for themselves...

If that's a surprise to anyone, they obviously didn't witness the same thing happening to the stereo mic group buy a few months ago. I expect the rat will be revealed soon. Hopefully eBay's legal folks will decide that protecting these scumbags isn't worth some 400 counts of tortious interference with the operation of a cooperative....

To the rat, if you're reading this, you have 72 hours to reveal yourself and put your own spin on the information. After that, the gloves come off.

ACM-200 excellent on guitar cabinets

I just got off the phone with Randy,,,,, Wow! He's the kind of guy that once you start talking, you just don't want to stop.

After talking with Randy, my thoughts about this have turned 180. We have made an impact and someone doesn't like it. When Paypal called (on my cell with speaker phone on) I also had Randy on the land line, and I never thought about it till now "how they knew so much about all this"

The gear making business is pretty small and it's pretty tough to keep secrets. I have a feeling the party responsible will get 'outed' in due time and I highly suspect there will be some serious backlash and very bad publicity for them on the forums.

Chance – Randy, just an idea… Since the Registration deadline has come and gone maybe using the User Console to reveal anymore of the Transaction options might be a good idea. That way if there is an Entity trying to put a stop to this, they won’t be able to follow our trail as easy as watching a Public forum. And just as we don’t mention price on the Public forum we don’t mention the means of payment.

it goes with out saying but... Thank You for all your work and troubles.

I suspect that whoever is the source causing our problems is registered and has a User Console to stay in the loop on current info. A new payment method is the best solution, and there are plenty of companies that would love to do business with a group our size.

Using their shopping cart would have ABSOLUTELY NO impact on this whatsoever... Please tell me how... I'm VERY CURIOUS to know the inner-workings of this one... And I'm sure that the Compliancy Department at Visa/Mastercard would surely be interest to hear this one as well..

Not sure I follow you here, but it isn't necessary to have a Paypal account to buy from a merchant that uses Paypal . . . this is quite straightforward, see my site for an example.

This isn't always true in foreign countries; I think they rejected some guy that tried to buy from me in China :o go figure . . .

I had understood that you were sending Paypal requests or invoices, in that case I believe it is necessary for the buyer to have an account. I was merely illustrating that if you created shopping cart buttons, that would not necessarily have been the case (it definitely would not have been for US customers).

I've always thought that has always been one of PayPal's biggest selling points... "Pay anyone with an email address"... If you accept PayPal transactions you must have an account with them otherwise you'd not have access to the funds...but anyone with an email address can send money to you...

I wouldn't consider myself to be "PayPal savy", since I've not used nor developed very many interfaces for it over the years... Since I've worked for bankcard ISO's, we had our own gateways, so there was never a need...and at 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction... it never was that attractive... BUT I will say this: There's really not a service out there that mimics the PayPal business model... if there is, I've never seen it... I mean, with PP, you can accept bank card/bank transfer transactions with only an email address through them... No need for a bonafide merchant account... I really don't know anyone else who operates on exactly this model... No credit checks, no underwriting..etc.

I will also go on to say that PayPal has a very good business model...and could be a very big money maker ALONG WITH a higher approval rating (happy customers) than the just under 50% that they have now...(just read this somewhere...not sure if it's fact or fiction) I'm not saying anything bad about their business model...but I do question their customer service model... and the methods that they use to "combat fraud"... If you are a legit business with several years using PayPal, without any fraud flags...etc., ONE PERSON who pays you with a stolen card or other fraudulent means, and YOU ARE SHUT DOWN... They'll freeze your PayPal account AND any bank account that is attached to it, WITHOUT EXPLAINATION...and can do so for up to 180 days, at which time they don't have to thaw it and return your funds, but then can, and usually do, give the balance of your accounts to the federal government... Which you'll never see again.. All of this, and you, the merchant NEVER done anything fraudulent...you were the victim...

PayPal is not a banking institution and they aren't governed by the FDIC... so they can use pretty much any tactics they want without recourse...

Ah, all of this PayPal talk is pretty much like these group buys... there's always a certain amount of risk involved... If you are willing to take that risk, jump in and have a ball... If you're not...don't do it...

Hi Chance/Randy,

I'm sorry to read of the PayPal scenario. I don't want to jinx this but I had a funny feeling they may pull this stunt. It isn't the first time this has happened...

A friend and fellow forum member over at Group DIY tried to do a GB with Carnhill Transformers in the UK and there was an inrush of guys PayPaling him for the transformers and PayPal decided to freeze his accounts as well and he too had pretty $hity service.

The good news was that within a few days those that HAD paid received their money, but PayPal did charge them a chargeback fee, so not only did they make money on the transactions from the interest they kept a service fee as well... not cool!

Anyways I just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and tell you to hold your heads high knowing that you have done the BEST you can do and have been FULLY open about the whole process. I, and I'm sure MANY other thank you for all the effort!

Blessings

Matt

I'm surprised it is that high, frankly. It's not particularly friendly by any stretch of the imagination....

That's why I, as a matter of policy, immediately make a "write me a check" request as soon as anyone pays me for anything with PayPal.... I put up with PayPal solely because there's no other alternative. I put up with eBay because craigslist isn't organized enough, so there's no other viable alternative. The second a real alternative to these services comes into being, I'm dropping my PayPal and eBay accounts faster than a politician takes bribes... I mean... campaign contributions.... :D

Nah, I had the same feeling, especially since I've been in the transaction processing business for so many years... BUT, I thought, well, they've allowed it at least 3 times already, why would they bock at a 4th...and everyone who has participated before was familiar with the PayPal process and I didn't want to rock the boat by going through a different gateway...

Chance's account hasn't been frozen...yet.. As of last night, they had just put a block on it to where he could receive no more funds... and I HEARD THE WOMAN TELL CHANCE, that she would send an email to him for his consent to refund all those who had paid, 100% including fees, and they would be automatically refunded... While we were still on the phone this email came in to Chance and he sent it back to her with his consent...

If refunds don't happen pretty soon, I'll ask Chance to do it manually... I believe there's about 48 transactions sitting there which wouldn't be a great task, but could take an hour or 2 to complete manually....

Hey Chance and others,

In your opinion, since I'm in the UK, do you think it would be worthwhile me having my good shipped to the US and have someone there forward me the items via a cheap postal service (eg. USPS)?

I'm just wondering in case we end up using FedEx as I foresee this as being incredibly expensive, especially for the heavier rack units.

I understand things are tricky just now, but it would be nice to know so as I can register the correct address details depending on how we are likely to ship.

Cheers and thanks for your work so far,

Roddy
