with the number of us buying i don't think air is out of the question.

40 bucks for shipping to get the mics a month earlier is fine with me. i'm willing to go air.

i also think getting the entire shipment completed as quickly as possible will result in lesser chance of forgetfulness on anyones part. better to keep our heads in it while we have momentum.

Well $1182 divided by 46 mics is just under $26 so I'd vote by air. It shouldn't cost more than another 10 to 15 bucks for shipping each mic on average as some will be getting more than one mic. I'd also suggest you ship them priority mail as they have bulk boxes available with a fee of $7.70 no matter how much it weighs as long as the mics fit in the box. For some of the larger orders Fed Ex or UPS is probably the best bet.

I'm not sure where you guys are getting your numbers. $40 per mic? 46 mics total? None of that agrees at all with the invoice that Chance posted. Please let me know if I'm missing something.

I lean towards boat. We have yet to be confronted with customs clearance/brokerage fees, and tariffs. This will not be an insignificant sum.

This whole deal seems to be quite complicated and headache inducing, so I wish you all the best with getting it all done painlessly and successfully. When its all said and done, if anyone has an HRM-10 that's either an extra or that they're just not pleased with and is looking to sell, I would be interested in buying for a fair price.

I bought three mics, a power supply, and a 7 pin cable from alctron-audio last september. I had it sent by air and TNT Shipping transfered my delivery to DHL. From start to finish took about 4 weeks but the order was shipped two weeks late because of a trade show. There was no tariffs or brokerage fees so there should be no additional fees if the mics are shipped via air. If they are shipped by boat I have no idea what additional fees will be incurred.

Seems that the reason so many were jumping on this was to try an entry level ribbon at a discount price...if the unexpected costs jump much more, we'll be negating the advantages.

With that said, I seriously don't care either way. I for one am not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the mics to arrive but others might feel differently.

Around 5 years ago I did this with another company from China. I did it with 5 studios here in LA. We did the boat trip, it took about a month. I had to do to the port of LA customs and pay the duty. The mics cost around $2K and the duty was around $80.00. Maybe boat would be better. We've been jaw-jacking about these things longer than that. Another thing is that I still have to ship to you. We started out to get the Nady/Apex ribbons at a deal and if we go sea, we'll be getting a killer deal. I know, me too, I want it NOW.

Someone is supposed to post a few things for me I just E-mailed them off

Hi Chance,
I do not know for mics, but in the guitar world, ordering 300 guitars from China can take many many months before you get them...

I think we should stick to the plan and everybody will get their mic a lot sooner and we will be able to mod them much quicker :)

I have to admit, I'm torn about the shipping. I ordered 4 mics, so I would be looking at $68 (air) vs. $10 (sea + tarriffs), which doesn't include shipping from Chance to me. I can wait a month for $60, but if I only had to pay $17 (1 mic) I might want air shipping.

Chance, I say it's your call as to how we ship it. You are being cool enough to organize this, so what you say goes. Everyone that ordered is going to have their own preference, so if there is no general consensus you should decide (no pressure :) )

I personally think, even tho I want mine NOW, we should be sensitive to those who are doing this for the killer deal. anyone getting the HRM-14 will be the only ones (at present) outside of China to get these. The same goes for I believe the HRM-10. You will have mics that no one has seen.
On a different note, With each order, I will insert a catalog that has some cool mic parts such as diaphragms etc. Also I will post some cool web-sites on mod'ing mics. It will give you something to read, study, and think about while we wait.

That's fine with me, Chance. If you don't mind this thing dragging on for a while, I can certainly wait. I really have no reason to hurry. In fact, I was originally going to vote for the boat - until I did the calculations and realized just how little money we were really talking about.

BTW, isn't the HRM-10 the same as the Nady RSM3? They certainly appear to be the same physically, and the specs appear the same as well.

One thing you might want to think about is how to handle any defective mics that happen to be in our shipment. Obviously, no one would hold you responsible in any way, but it would be nice if there were a plan in place for how to handle such an event. With this many mics in the order, it's certainly possible for a bad one to slip through.

Yes they do look the same, but they told me that some of these mics have not been exported yet. What is the price of the NADY, do you know ?

Well, just because Nady shows it on their website is no guarantee that the mic has actually entered the country yet. In fact, none of the usual web vendors even offer the RSM-3 for sale yet, so there's a very good chance that they are not yet shipping. The one vendor that I did find who lists it for sale shows a price of $219 for it.

Cool. so we ARE getting a killer deal 4 for the price of one. I had no idea.

About the shipping method...

I'll just let you guys decide... I've spent a fortune over the years paying extra shipping costs because I thought I had to have it NOW... Probably enough to where I could have had one of the highest end studios in the country!

SO... Ever what method you smarter guys think is best for us, I'll agree with... I've got a session recording banjo coming up middle of the month, February... I'd like to have them by then, if we don't, I'll just hold off the session until I get em' :)
